Hi how would this be pronounced if you were using the latin/italian form of it?

No idea but I think it's a beautiful name, for what it's worth.

tomatoesontoast · 17/02/2011 10:23

sort of 'rye neh'

is it latin/italian? [thick emoticon]

weimy · 17/02/2011 10:31

HI

Thanks it works for a few origins apparently, our surname is italian so I just want to keep with that. I like Elena too.

Elena's a lovely name (am assuming you would stress on the first 'e' as the do in italy?) - like it both ways though

iwilldothis · 17/02/2011 15:19

I know a Rayne (pronounced the same as "rain"). Yes, it IS a beautiful name, but....
she gets "rayne, rayne, go away...." and "rayne the pain..." chanted in the playground.....maybe worth considering?? Sorry.

weimy · 17/02/2011 18:41

If I'm going with the italian it will have to end in a consonant :)

weve chosen Orla Raine for our DD Grin

her dad wanted Rayne for a first name but I got my way and relegated it to middle name and my spelling Grin

think raine is so much prettier than rayne...not sure why it just look nicer

weimy · 18/02/2011 18:08

totally agree!

Raine is the name we have chosen if we have a girl- it think its lovely and its easy to spell and pronounce but is also unusual! we will be pronouncing it Rain-a.

SueWhite · 18/02/2011 21:45

Raine reminds me of Raine Spencer, who was allegedly horrendous. She was Princess Diana's stepmother and they all hated her

weimy · 19/02/2011 11:05

I don't think children born now will have a clue who that is, maybe grandparents and I can't see them bullying on the playground.

Rain a is a nice way to pronounce it!

LessNarkyPuffin · 19/02/2011 15:48

They used to call her 'acid rain'.

SoupDragon · 19/02/2011 15:51

No. Just no.

It will always be pronounced Rain. It was my maiden name and, coupled with a rhyming name, was hell to live with.

SoupDragon · 19/02/2011 15:52

If I have to laugh one more time at an oh-so-witty wet weather joke I will not be responsible for my actions.

youngjoly · 19/02/2011 19:28

I only know it as a shortening from Lorraine.

I have only ever heard it pronounced as Rain.
