What do you think of this name? is it too old man or simply classic? it wouldnt be usually to my taste but popped into my head today and both myself and dh think we like it....

My DP also loves it which makes it hard to think clearly on it. TBH it probably won't make my shortlist because I would probably go for our "safe" option of Thomas rather than risk regretting the same further down the line.

Another borderline name that I can't decide if I love or hate is Jude.

NAME rather than SAME!

BarbieLovesKen · 12/02/2011 22:21

ha ha! strange - Im the same over Jude - part of me immediately thinks Jude Law in Alfie which is good looking, smooth, bright. Other part of me thinks "girls name". Thomas is lovely by the way Smile

Thanks, I love Thomas too and I can really "see" a DS of mine with that name. It is a bit safe though but I bet we will go with it if this baby is a boy.

One of my best friends from uni has just named her son Thomas which is a pain, but we only see them twice a year so DP thinks we can still go for it.

DP also thinks Jude is girlie, I think it is cool but a bit depressing if you think of Jude The Obscure.

I loved Noah when I was pregnant with DD but it doesn't feel like my son's name anymore even though it sounds good with DD's name.

Oh and another thought re: Arthur. Personally I don't want to talk myself into liking a name. I think if I am an unsure then it should probably be a no.

grubbalo · 12/02/2011 22:54

Do agree Reddaisy and Barbie, you need to be sure about it!!
Also sorry to go back a bit but why thank you Tracey... I like you too and think you also have a very good taste in names..!

2old4thislark · 12/02/2011 23:02

It was my grandpa's name so I sort of like it it.

I would say it's ok if you live in an affluent London suburb but if you live in a slightly less salubrious area he may get the sh*t kicked out of him at secondary school Wink

agirlcalledvicky · 14/02/2011 14:41

Lovely. We have a 6 month old Arthur - he is a cheeky, chubby red-head and really suits it. I don;t think its old man trendy - its too traditional and classic. But obviously I may be biased.... Grin

I like Arthur, have only met one (mid-20s) though he pronounced it 'Artur' which is probably how lots of European people will. Good classic name though IMO.

womma · 14/02/2011 21:50

I love it!

girlfriendinacoma · 15/02/2011 11:05

nice but I think it might be the next Oliver - I know 2 and have heard it more and more in the playground.

flower38 · 15/02/2011 12:04

Like it.

flopsy1974 · 15/02/2011 15:49

I love it. But we have a Martha so would be a big no no for us Smile

MrsDeidreIppy · 15/02/2011 17:22

I quite like old man names. What about

Gerald
Nigel
Trevor
Gary

ThatllDoPig · 15/02/2011 17:26

what tracybath said.

Fab name.
And he can always be Art or Arty.

BettyButterknife · 16/02/2011 20:20

I have one too, and love it. I do actually think it's the best name in the world - I couldn't be more happy with our choice (my Arthur is 3.5yo so enough time has passed for me to see it a bit more objectively, I wasn't so sure to begin with).

As well as the Russell Brand film, there's also a Luc Besson film that came out last Christmas, and there's an Aardman film called 'Arthur Christmas' coming out this year, so I think it will definitely gain popularity.

Quite glad my Arthur is not really of an age where he'd be embarrassed about this, more excited there's a film with his name in :)
