I like Tamsin a lot but the potential for tampon NN always raises its ugly head.

In the same vein, also like Meredith, Meryl, and Rosanne.

QuestionNumber · 09/02/2011 13:50

I like the name, with the spelling Tamsin or Tamsine. Can't see the point of the "a".

MelinaM · 09/02/2011 13:52

I love the name Tamsin, prefer the spelling TamsineSmile x

melikalikimaka · 09/02/2011 14:04

Tamarind after the plant!

AllieW · 09/02/2011 14:54

Tamsin is my preference. I'd never heard of the Tamasin variant until the cookery author Tamasin Day-Lewis became well known.

ConcreteElephant · 09/02/2011 16:35

I went to school with a Tamaris - similar to Tamasin without looking like it should be Tamsin? I like them, very Westcountry Grin

bluebump · 09/02/2011 16:36

My cousin is a Tamasin. Both are nice.

Julenelle · 09/02/2011 16:41

Tamsin is pretty....do you like Tammy as a nn?

greenzebra · 09/02/2011 17:32

tammy, im not sure I dont mind tam. I am liking it the more I say it and I like both names.

I sprang in on DH when he came in from work and he said he didnt dislike them, preferred tamsin. Ive put it on the list so you never know come May I may have a little tamsin.

Tam is used as a Scottish nickname for Thomas.

greenzebra · 09/02/2011 18:10

yeah I know, my DH is scottish and wanted to use Tam as a boys name but I didnt like it for a boy, maybe thats why I thought of Tamsin.

Another variation is moving the "s" further forwards to make Tasmin.
I prefer both Tasmin and Tamsin to Tamasin.

oldspeckledtam · 09/02/2011 20:31

I'm a Tamsin and have never been called tampon. I get tasmin a lot, but I'm used to that. My parents thought I'd be Tammy but from the time I could speak I refused to answer to it. It's a much more popular name than it used to be, but is still relatively unusual....

LadyCLC · 09/02/2011 21:07

I like Tasmin more and another option ,which is a real name cos I know someone but quite unusual is 'Tasneem' which is also lovely x

mum295 · 09/02/2011 21:38

It's my name and I did get the tampon nickname at school, sadly. I hated my name and my parents for choosing it for some of my teenage years. All character-building (or something).

I was Tammy as a little girl, which was nice.

I've grown into the name and grown happier with it along the way, but a lot of people do struggle with the spelling (confusion with Tasmin, Tazmin, Tamzin, Tamasin).

My parents chose it due to Cornish connections, which has always been a nice thing.

One other thing, I've found that people from other countries in Europe/the USA really struggle with it. In French it's a masculine-looking name so they say "Tamseeeeen" once they realise I'm female. The Americans sometimes think it's an Indian name.

growing3rdbump · 10/02/2011 10:31

I was considering Tamsin for DC3 also due in May. Think it's gorgeous. I know a grown up Tamsin who is known as Tammy and really like that too.

BodleianBabe · 10/02/2011 10:40

I wanted Tamzin for a girl (spelt with a 'z') to ensure I got the right pronunciation.

I love it (although will never now get a chance to use it)!!

Igglepickle · 10/02/2011 11:43

Agree with the point about pronunciation. I know a Tamsin and some people mangle it as "Tam-zun". Completely wrong!

greenzebra · 10/02/2011 11:44

Im glad it had pretty good comments, Hopefully my husband will grow to like it more.

Its up there with Robyn for me
I think they are two pretty names with out sounding too cutesy.

My name is Tamsin (I spell it differently though). I have never had the NN tampon, and have almost never been called Tammy as my parents refused to allow people to shorten my name. Spelling and pronounciation can be a problem though. I have relatives who never learnt how to spell my name, and often get people spelling it Tamzin after Tamzin Outhwaite or saying Tasmin instead or various other confusions. I am happy with my name though and have never resented my parents for giving me an unusual name.

TransatlanticCityGirl · 11/02/2011 23:06

I like Tamasin, but I prefer it more as Tamasine

Mostlytoasty · 11/02/2011 23:10

What about Tamlyn? A friend has a little girl called Tamlyn...just a thought.

RubyRoseRed · 13/02/2011 17:23

My friend is called Tamarin. She was called Tammy when she was younger but now dislikes that and prefers the nn Tam

pranma · 13/02/2011 17:50

I love Tamsin it was with Briony in top 3 girls' names for dgc[who was a boy in the end].The third was Fay.
