Hi All. Just interested to know...

Which do you prefer? (And why?)
And how would you pronounce them? (And where are you in the world?)

Please and thank you :)

Eleanor Ell en or

AllieW · 08/02/2011 17:59

Eleanor, for definite. I think of it as the classic spelling. Really don't like Elinor.

I think I pronounce it El-uh-nuh.

RubyRoseRed · 08/02/2011 18:00

I prefer Elanor...just to be awkward!

QuestionNumber · 08/02/2011 18:01

Eleanor

friedbananas · 08/02/2011 18:03

Eleanor.

For some reason Elinor sounds like something pharmaceutical to me...

coffeeicing · 08/02/2011 18:08

Eleanor by miles

cocoachannel · 08/02/2011 18:11

Eleanor. No question.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 08/02/2011 18:17

JamieLeeCurtis · 08/02/2011 19:16

Eleanor - the other one sounds made-up

Elle-en-or (UK)

FakePlasticTrees · 08/02/2011 19:19

Eleanor - the other looks like you can't spell Eleanor...

Elle en or.

TheVisitor · 08/02/2011 19:20

Eleanor, but I'm biased. :D

nearenoughsuperfluous · 08/02/2011 19:21

Eleanor- it just looks right

Folicacid · 08/02/2011 19:22

Eleanor - Ell en ur

WincyEtNightie · 08/02/2011 19:23

Eleanor
Elle-en-er
I'm in the UK

(It's actually my name btw Grin I have a special secret Hmm look for people who pronounce it Ell-en-noor)

Elinor is often considered the Welsh spelling, however it's also how Jane Austen spells it in S&S so perfectly acceptable just not as good

drivingmisscrazy · 08/02/2011 19:25

Eleanor: Ell-en-er, English but live in Ireland. It's DD's middle name.

flowery · 08/02/2011 19:26

Eleanor. Because it's a fab name. Grin

I am in the UK.

lisianthus · 08/02/2011 19:32

Doesn't Eleanor have the emphasis on the second syllable and Elinor on the third?

I always think of them as Eleanor of Aquitane, sort of old school power and romance and Elinor Roosevelt, sort of sassy flapper. If pushed, I think I might go with Elinor.

flowery · 08/02/2011 19:48

Eleanor has emphasis on first syllable. I would have thought Elinor would be the same.

WincyEtNightie · 08/02/2011 20:02

Apparantly so flowery (at least in the US!) Smile

TheRedQueen · 08/02/2011 20:03

Prefer Elinor, because I like the Jane Austin character Elinor Dashwood!

Would pronounce them both the same.

Am in Germany, but am British.

pointylug · 08/02/2011 20:11

Eleanor. Just looks more proper to me. Good name.

flowery · 08/02/2011 20:18

Wincy that link is freaky! My pooter is saying my name at me! Grin

hippytrippynamedropper · 08/02/2011 20:42

I've been thinking about this. I registered dd as Eleanor but have since become quite attracted to the Elinor spelling. I can't explain why. Don't suppose it matters - I thought they were pronounced the same way anyway
