Lovely if pronounced Clare+a (as in Yorkshire), not so keen on Clar+a pronunciation.

HettyAmaretti · 07/02/2011 08:46

I'm the other way around - like Clar+a dislike Clare+a.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 07/02/2011 08:49

I really like Clara to rhyme with car, but not clare-a. DDs best friend is called Clara and she is lovely. And Italian if that makes a difference.

ValiumSandwichTime · 07/02/2011 08:55

I really like it, but again, pronounciation issues in my neck of the woods. Some people wouldn's say it right. The vowel would be more like the Italian vowel 'a'. or how the germans would say klara.

bigbluebump · 07/02/2011 09:10

I prefer Clare to Clara. Not pronounciation issues with that Smile.

Rhubarbgarden · 07/02/2011 09:41

Iove Clara

Rhubarbgarden · 07/02/2011 09:42

That should be 'I love'

onimolap · 07/02/2011 09:45

I would probably say it Clare-a, though both pronunciations are in use. Are you up for the endless corrections/explanations? It is a lovely name; it makes me think of The Nutcracker.

SameOldJollster · 07/02/2011 10:37

Love Clara. Would never occur to me to pronounce any way other than Clarr-ah.

dottyaboutstripes · 07/02/2011 10:43

I love it! But not to sound like Clare-a

ThisFeelsWeird · 07/02/2011 11:18

I like it, would never think to pronounce it any way other than Clar-a (rhymes with car). Also makes me think of The Nutcracker.

GColdtimer · 07/02/2011 11:20

Love it. Would have had it for DD2 but it didn't go with our surname.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 07/02/2011 11:26

Lovely.

ghosteditor · 07/02/2011 11:39

I like it! I would naturally assume 'klar-a' not 'clare-a' and don't really like the latter.

FWIW, I know a late 20s Clara (American) who is very dignified and intelligent and full of gravitas, so that's how I see the name - really like it!

MotherMountainGoat · 07/02/2011 11:43

I love the name, and wanted to call DD2 Clara (to rhyme with car not hair). I was outvoted by DH and DD1, and I have to say the name they chose is just as nice.

Canella · 07/02/2011 11:50

i love it! would never have thought to rhyme it with hair! dd's wee friend is called it and with her surname i think she sounds like she could be a filmstar! fab name!

WincyEtNightie · 07/02/2011 11:52

I love it. Would have been on my list if our surname wasn't Clarke!

Amateurish · 07/02/2011 12:15

DD1 is Clara. Love it, and the exclusivity. So I wouldn't recommend Wink

mamma2boyz · 07/02/2011 13:35

Clara is lovely.
Clare is my middle name and very dull...but Clara sounds beautiful x

ensure · 07/02/2011 16:18

It is shooting up in popularity I think, but it is nice.

carciofi · 07/02/2011 20:03

I love Clara and it is a strong contender for DD2.

stickygotstuck · 07/02/2011 23:48

Oh, no! My daughter is Clara - pronounced Clah-rrah.

First time it has entered my mind it could be pronounced Clare-a! Shock - I don't like that one bit.

Good job I never thought of that before we named her.

On the other hand, I am slightly pissed off I didn't - I thought we had found one no one could possibly mispronounce :(

PlanetLizard · 07/02/2011 23:48

I like Clara (to rhyme with Cara). Also like Claire.

icapturethecastle · 08/02/2011 00:24

I love it was thinking about it tonight when reading my DS Heidi (I love that story) that if I had another little girl I would call her Clara.

NadiaWadia · 08/02/2011 04:14

What is wrong with Clara to rhyme with Sarah? I think it's nice. Had an ancient great-aunt called that (from Yorkshire!) It has a softer sound I think.

Clara to rhyme with Zara is nice too though. Maybe that's the European version and the other one is British?
