We are having our 3rd and final baby and if it is a girl I am quite keen on Minnie...especially as she will be the baby of the family.

What are your thoughts on the name??

Thanks and happy Friday, yay!!

Hmmm, I have heard it used as a name for your ladygarden, so I wouldn't use it

Also, what if the poor girl isn't 'mini' in any way?

SlightlyTubbyHali · 04/02/2011 12:45

I like it but I think it is best to use it as a nickname (she isn't going to be a baby forever...).

belgo · 04/02/2011 12:47

I like Minerva as the full name.

girliefriend · 04/02/2011 12:47

My friends dd is a Minnie and it is quite cute but I have reservations that she will curse her parents when the whole Minnie Mouse teasing begins at school.

Also a lot of older people do call their lady bits minnie......Hmm

mamma2boyz · 04/02/2011 12:51

Yes, that is what I thought!! I have friends who tell their young daughters that is what they are called...so yes it did put me off!

Thanks for your speedy responses...will stick with Flora Elizabeth me thinks x

Oh dear God no. Think Mouse immediately. Bit too twee and... oh just no. Flora Elizabeth is absolutely gorgeous!! yep, best stick with that!

flaine · 05/02/2011 20:22

Please choose Flora.

mrsSmurf · 05/02/2011 20:24

I have a Minnie, was told on here before I had her about it being a nickname for the vulva but I have never heard of it in real life, maybe a regional thing?

Anyway obviously I love the name, not fussed on Flora makes me think of the spread. How about Florence?

LoopyLoopsPoopaScoop · 05/02/2011 20:26

Your other option is much better.

timetomove · 05/02/2011 20:28

I know a Minnie short for dominique. Actually it might be Dominica -can't remember because they only use Minnie or min.

Can also be short for araminta.

harpsichordcarrier · 05/02/2011 20:32

gosh no.
sorry
there's the fact that it's a euphemism for pudenda
then the Mouse thing
and then the risk that she turns out to be LARGE in some way.
so so so many reasons to say NO.

juneybean · 05/02/2011 20:43

Love it, tis my nanas name and was my great-nans name

onimolap · 05/02/2011 21:06

My first thought was of Minnie Cauldwell from Corrie.

Minerva is, however, wonderful.

jabberwocky · 05/02/2011 21:13

Minnie Driver was the second thing I thought of (unfortunately Minnie Mouse was the first). Apparently Driver's first name is actually Amelia so not sure how they arrived at a nn of Minnie. I like the idea of using it as a nn if you really like the name. Dominique is lovely as are some of the other suggestions such as Araminta.

timetomove · 05/02/2011 21:17

At a push it could be short for hermione. Maybe.

skiphopskidaddle · 05/02/2011 21:23

but it's slang for fanjo round here!

CilantroLarry · 05/02/2011 21:31

Flora is beautiful.

Minnie is a twee euphemism for a fanjo.

Nightstar · 05/02/2011 22:25

I dont think you need me to add to this! I agree with the others

Nightstar · 05/02/2011 22:25

and I love Flora :-)

SlightlyTubbyHali · 06/02/2011 20:05

Flora Elizabeth is beautiful.

Minnie could be short for Marianne, I think.

SlightlyTubbyHali · 06/02/2011 20:05

Or wilhemina/wilhelmine.

A1980 · 06/02/2011 21:12

Flora is a lovely name for a girl.

Go with that :)

shouldnotbehere · 07/02/2011 15:13

Minnie, Polly, Molly, Mimi were all traditionally nicknames for Mary.

My great grandmother on my fathers side was known as Polly (name Mary), and my great aunt on my mothers side was known as Minnie (name Mary).

I think Mary was so common, they had lots of nicknames.

humanfraggle · 07/02/2011 15:54

I love Minnie, it's my dog's name Grin

RetroMum1 · 07/02/2011 16:06

The welsh name Manon is quite often shortened to Minnie
