Could I please have your honest opinions on Tallon - an ancient Irish (boy's) name meaning gift.

I knew a family at school who had this as a surname.

It's awful for a first name! What about something similar, but less "claw" related. Callan? That's Irish.

Is it actually pronounced as seen? If so, I'm afraid I dislike it for the reasons others have given above.

Erm, that would be a no from me. There is a Tarin in ds's class though not keen on that either probably cos he's a handful and his mum is orange. No help from me there then .

Another alternative, although it's Welsh rather than Irish, is Taliesin.
