Could I please have your honest opinions on Tallon - an ancient Irish (boy's) name meaning gift.

Megglevache · 29/01/2011 18:53

Claws ins't it?

Mumbybumby · 29/01/2011 18:54

Makes me think of birds of prey, sorry!

Megglevache · 29/01/2011 18:55

Theodore, Dieter, Ivan and Jonas all mean gift too Grin

SingingSands · 29/01/2011 18:55

I knew a family at school who had this as a surname.

It's awful for a first name! What about something similar, but less "claw" related. Callan? That's Irish.

DooinMeCleanin · 29/01/2011 18:56

I like it.

BarbieLovesKen · 29/01/2011 19:03

(bangs head off wall...............

ive heard worse, think its alright

reminds me of a mate at college who wanted to name all his kids after animals.
Wolf, fox, wren, hawk. I bet he never thought of tallon

AllieW · 29/01/2011 19:10

Is it actually pronounced as seen? If so, I'm afraid I dislike it for the reasons others have given above.

BarbieLovesKen · 29/01/2011 19:11

PML... "I've heard worse" Grin Grin

Just what we were going for Grin

greenzebra · 29/01/2011 19:26

I love it but I am a Farscape fan Grin

CoteDAzur · 31/01/2011 12:07

Means "heel" in French, fwiw.

ShatnersBassoon · 31/01/2011 12:10

It's a brand of stationery too.

GooseyLoosey · 31/01/2011 12:13

I just think Claw and I speak as someone very familiar with Irish names.

FreudianSlippery · 31/01/2011 12:22

Not too keen personally, because of the claw thing.

I'm guessing you'd like a fairly unusual name, so here's a few

Warwick
Reeve
Eoin
Rafferty

HappySeven · 31/01/2011 13:48

There's a Tallen in my DH's family. Was a bit weird to start with and people always ask you to repeat it but I've got used to it over the years.

MollysChambers · 31/01/2011 13:51

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

ghosteditor · 31/01/2011 13:55

crawling me too Wink

How about Talyn?

FranSanDisco · 31/01/2011 14:00

Erm, that would be a no from me. There is a Tarin in ds's class though not keen on that either probably cos he's a handful and his mum is orange. No help from me there then Blush.

AllieW · 31/01/2011 14:16

Another alternative, although it's Welsh rather than Irish, is Taliesin.

seashore · 31/01/2011 14:18

I actually like Tallon but it's too west coast USA.

cheesesarnie · 31/01/2011 14:21
