As nn, with Susannah as actual name. Am I being ridiculous? I think it is the traditional nn and I really like it (despite it being the name of childhood friend's dog).

I like it a lot. Go for it.

iwantavuvezela · 27/01/2011 14:12

I knew a Suki, wonderful women and loved the name - hers was stand alone Suki.

Hedwig3 · 27/01/2011 14:21

Really like it, although Susannah is not my cup of tea.

Speaking of tea, wasn't it Polly who put the kettle on and Suky who took it off again?! Grin

mynameis · 27/01/2011 14:25

Mmm yes I like it, it brings to mind True Bloods Sooki said in that sexy Bill Compton voice Grin

elseIlltellyourfather · 27/01/2011 14:26

Oh, thats a good point. I don't want a child who doesn't put the kettle on but insists on taking it off. Annoying. glad it is liked so far. I am not desperately crazy about Susannah either but do love Suki.

I have a lovely friend who's called Suki. Fantastic name Grin

CameronCook · 27/01/2011 14:30

Love it - both long and short

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 27/01/2011 14:35

mynameis - you mean "suuckeh" :o

mopsyflopsy · 27/01/2011 14:39

It sounds very Japanese - is it?

fragglerocks · 27/01/2011 14:41

Reminds me of True blood but I like it!!

elseIlltellyourfather · 27/01/2011 14:49

Mopsyflopsy, no idea, but I agree it does. Havn't mentioned it to DH yet but can now I have some MN ammo to back it up, he is easily manipulated persueded.

Polly put the kettle on, Suki take it off again. First thought I'm afraid - think there would be lots of comments/jokes along these lines.

DamselInDisguise · 27/01/2011 15:02

Suki is the name of a character in avatar the last airbender. It's also a term from martial arts meaning something like poor technique or weakness (can't remember exactly). I think it might also be a place somewhere.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it as a name or nickname. It sounds cute and a bit plucky. I'd go with the Suki spelling rather than sukey (which may get pronounced sucky).

PlanetLizard · 27/01/2011 15:15

Do you like Susie, Suzy, Sue, Zanna?

elseIlltellyourfather · 27/01/2011 15:57

PlanetLizard, Not at all. I know that is a hazard. Or are you just being very polite and offering alternatives to Suki?

I was at school with a Sukey. She was a Suzanne. Much prefer Susannah. It's really nice... also like Anny as a NN too.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 27/01/2011 17:35

Dd is at school with a Suki. I love it. DH thought it sounded like a pet's name, but what does he know!

Go for it. Susannah is lovely, too.

mynameis · 27/01/2011 17:41

ElephantsAndMiasmas ooh yes gives me the shivers everytime [swoon]

AllieW · 27/01/2011 18:23

I also think of the nursery rhyme. Plus one of the characters in Something Special (the BBC series featuring "Mr Tumble") is called Aunt Sukey.

Not terribly keen, sorry.

NadiaWadia · 27/01/2011 21:15

Always wonder why they say 'Suck-eh' on True Blood. Must be their weird accents!

I think the normal pronunciation is 'Soo-kie'.

Very cute. Susannah is lovely as well.

elseIlltellyourfather · 27/01/2011 21:48

Told DH Susannah first, he liked. Said he would need working on for Suki but that's ok, its not 'no'! thanks a lot for the responses, really surprised how positive they are.

I love Suki, I considered it when PG (had a DS in the end).

kreecherlivesupstairs · 28/01/2011 08:25

I am a lone dissenting voice then. It is a name for a cat not a person.
