DH is Italian, I am American. We have no idea where we will end up living eventually and need a name that won't be too weird anywhere. (Our daughter is Marisa) I think we are down the these: Nicolo (Nico); Leonardo (Leo); and Jacob (Jake). I love Liam too, but we don't really come by it naturally...Honest opinions?

I think in the UK/US Nicolo could end up being confused with Nicola, so just using Nico may be wiser. Leo also a great compromise.

You could get away with Luca, Marco, Nino, Antonio...all scan ok in UK/US....

I have a friend who gave her half-French son a French name that looks like a girl's name in English - they now live in the US and the poor boy gets all sorts of remarks and teasing so you do have to think of all the possible ramifications!

I know a female Nico - she really does not like it because everyone assumes it is a male name but it is not uncommon as a female name where I live.

I love Claudio/Claude - travels well and not too 'out there'

Jacob makes me think of savoury biscuits - Jacob's Cream Crackers and Liam? Liam Gallagher - nuff said Grin

Nicolo/Nico - quite nice although they are more unusual than your other choices. Nicholas is far more popular in the UK than Nicolo. Think Nico is on the rise here though.
Leonardo/Leo - like :)
Jacob/Jake - like :)
Liam - not so keen

How about Arlo, Oliver, Benjamin, Isaac, Maximus, Theodore, David, Emil, Jacob, Edward, Francis, Benedict, Marco, Samuel, Thomas, Rafael, James?

Thanks for the thoughts (and ideas!)!

We're British but DH's family is Italian and we're expecting a boy. We wanted to have a Luca, but it's really popular now - worldwide - which is really annoying!

For now, we've settled on the name Rocco. Common in Italy apparently, but not in the UK.

It may be different in the US - there is the Madonna connection, but I hope it's not too tacky celeb, I don't think many people copied it at the time - and of course there's Rocky Balboa!

I really like Nico, if my brother wasn't a Nicholas I would consider it myself!

i like all but liam :)

michael?

I would go for an Italian name. People will get used to it - it may just take them a while. You have an Italian DH, take advantage of that.

What about Massimo or ? Leonardo is a fantastic name.

anonymosity · 27/01/2011 02:05

Leo is good. Doesn't matter where you end up, its pretty easy to pronounce.

I like Nico & Leo.
