Would love your thoughts on the name Iris. Not pregnant but just musing - so I must be getting broody! We already have a Sophia (middle name Joy), so wanted something a bit quirkier for next time (assuming it's a girl - hypothetically).
Thanks!

Old lady - and quite an ugly sound - eye-riss. Odd that it is in the eye too actually.

Nagoo · 20/01/2011 10:52

I LOVE it. but it was my Nan's name Wink Have kept it in the box for a second DD.

gleechie · 20/01/2011 12:10

I like it, i also like Isis there is one round here who is 8 and blooming lovely. Grin

Thandeka · 20/01/2011 12:11

Am thinking Iris Mae for DC2- cant think of a boys name so DC2 will just HAVE to be a girl.

Thankyou all very much - seems dads less keen than mums but I will refuse to be veto-ed by DH!

Cool. My 2 year olds Connie and from what ive seen the old names are coming back. Stella, Lilly, Ena and Isobella are a few ive heard.

GetOrfMoiLand · 20/01/2011 18:06

Ooh Chummy - my dd is a Sophia and Iris would be the top of my list for another daughter as well!

I like the greek theme.

LadyLamington · 20/01/2011 18:12

I vote elegant/cool - I like Iris (Kate Winslet) in The Holiday.

OddBodd · 20/01/2011 20:03

Just makes me think of eyes. Doesn't seem pretty to me. I prefer Ivy.

eandemum · 20/01/2011 20:19

FAB! I used to work with one - pron the 1st i shorter - as in in (She was Portugeuse)
Love it either way as was on my short list too!

NorwichMumToBe · 20/01/2011 20:30

I love Iris, but DH vetoed it for our baby. He said it was an old woman's name!

OkieCokie · 20/01/2011 22:00

I have a friend who prounonces it Ir-Is ( I guess ear-is) which I think is nice too.

tah2 · 20/01/2011 22:04

LOVE IT! I have a niece with that name, although she spells it Eirys which i think is really nice.

onimolap · 20/01/2011 22:07

Doesn't do anything for me, sorry. I knew one who'd be about 10 now, and a couple of little ones.

Duhart · 20/01/2011 22:20

Very stylish name.

The Greek goddess Iris rode rainbows to deliver messages between heaven and earth. Beautiful imagery.

smother · 20/01/2011 22:29

Elegant and cool - conjures up images of skinny, chic woman (not an old lady) - hard to picture an overweight Iris!

fairybubbles · 21/01/2011 03:40

i love it too but my DP not keen also. on my shortlist Wink

shouldnotbehere · 21/01/2011 12:09

I love the name Iris. IMHO it is elegant and cool.

LadyGoneGaga · 21/01/2011 12:37

I love it. On my list with Marnie and Esme but think I'm edsging towards Iris at the mo.

muminthemiddle · 22/01/2011 00:44

Very cool.

MrsFlittersnoop · 22/01/2011 00:49

Iris Murdoch. V. V. intelligent - cool, sexy and bohemian (in a retro 50's way!).
