Already have 15 month old DS called Angus.
Which name goes best with this?

I think both are great names - Hugo perhaps has the edge.

tummytickler · 18/01/2011 23:06

Hector is gorgeous

moaningminniewhingesagain · 18/01/2011 23:08

I think Hector goes better with Angus. Nice Scottish names.

catinboots · 18/01/2011 23:08

Hugo Hugo Hugo!!

We have one - he is 10 months and totally fab!

He gets called Hugs, Hugzy or Baby-Hugs for short. Everyone comments on how fab his name is..

Beamur · 18/01/2011 23:09

Both are lovely. Hector a favourite of mine.

PlanetLizard · 18/01/2011 23:10

Hector

JojoMags · 19/01/2011 20:05

Hugo. Love it! Hector goes well with Angus though. Both great names.

ValiumSilverTongue · 19/01/2011 20:49

Hugo!

But if you'd said Victor or Hector I'd say Victor.

BibiBelle · 19/01/2011 20:51

I love them both - wait and see if he's like a little Hugs or Hec!

McDreamy · 19/01/2011 20:52

I prefer Hugo I think it goes better with Angus, lovely names.

reddaisy · 19/01/2011 20:54

I LOVE Hugo. Very cool.

usualsuspect · 19/01/2011 21:39

I don't like either

cece · 19/01/2011 21:41

I love both. I think Hugo has the edge though. I do like Hugh too.

theroseofwait · 19/01/2011 22:17

Hugo, although I do like Hector lots. We have a 9 month old Hugo who is known almost universally as Boogie because of dh's habit of calling him hugie-boogie when first born!

PlanetLizard · 20/01/2011 09:11

Hugo is stereotypically posh, whereas Hector is "interesting posh".

ThatllDoPig · 20/01/2011 10:35

Agree that they both sound v posh.
But Angus and Hugo goes nicely.

sophiesmummie · 20/01/2011 12:09

I don't like the meaning of hector - that would put me off. Also what nicknames could you use - Heck, Hecky...?

ThatllDoPig · 20/01/2011 12:16

What is the meaning of Hector sophiesmummie?

Chandon · 20/01/2011 12:19

something like boss? Like in "hectoring"?

upahill · 20/01/2011 12:21

Anyone remember him ...If the link works!

Hector \Hec"tor, n. A bully; a blustering, turbulent, insolent, fellow; one who vexes or provokes. [1913 Webster]

Hector \Hec"tor, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Hectored; p. pr. & vb. n. Hectoring.]

To treat with insolence; to threaten; to bully; hence, to torment by words; to tease; to taunt; to worry or irritate by bullying. --Dryden. [1913 Webster]

sophiesmummie · 20/01/2011 13:57

Yes, to hector means bo bully/torment. And a hector is a bully/tormentor. Not a good association in my mind.

As it is used quite frequently in the press I think the meaning matters more than if it wasn't used nowadays.

ThatllDoPig · 20/01/2011 14:32

oh. thats not very nice then.
Go for HUGO!!

redgecko · 21/01/2011 12:44

bigbluebump / sophiesmummie - you're confusing the meaning of the verb "to hector" with the meaning of the name. The name is of Greek origin and means "steadfast". Also strongly associated with the brave and loyal Trojan warrior of the same name.

hulahula - both names are nice, although I think Hector works better with Angus (which is also a great name!). But then I'm biased as DS is a Hector Wink

annasophia · 21/01/2011 13:22

I'd vote for Hugo.

To me the bully association of Hector is too strong, I also don't like the nicknames - Heck, Hecky?
