I like! I would use Isadora with Dora as a nickname though.

MummyElk · 16/01/2011 22:31

we have a Theodora.... i love it...Grin
and Dorothea is nice too...
longer versions of the name means you can have other nicknames too... (like, er, "theadora, dinky dora, wouldn't you like to know...." sung to the first line of Balamory...Hmm)

NewImprovedJollster · 16/01/2011 23:13

Isadora and Theodora are both nice enough if Dora is your objective... :)

blinks · 16/01/2011 23:20

unwise

Sinkingfeeling · 16/01/2011 23:27

I love it - good friend's daughter is Theodora, but always known as Dora. Why unwise, blinks? Because of Dora the Explorer?

blinks · 16/01/2011 23:27

blinks · 16/01/2011 23:28

I like it!

ValiumSilverTongue · 17/01/2011 00:09

everybody will think it! whatever they say.

Where are we going! clap clap clap Dora's house!

PlanetLizard · 17/01/2011 00:15

I like it :)

purlcity · 17/01/2011 00:27

I love it. Our DD2 is called Teodora (DH is Italian) and although we tend to call her Teo, I love Dora and wouldn't mind at all if she became known as Dora when she got older.

Isadora is beautiful as well!

DurhamDurham · 17/01/2011 00:44

When I read the title I automatically thought of Dora The Explorer....however the programme is unlikey to be around for ever (fingers crossed!)....she's bound to run out of adventures soon.

MummyElk · 17/01/2011 14:20

i get the Dora references but it's a preschool programme?? so hardly going to plague her all the way through school...Hmm
but then...i also know a pre-Lauren Child Charlie and Lola.... (both perfectly psychologically intact AFAIK) so what do i know Smile
just make sure she's a Cbeebies kinda girl....my girls can't bear dora or manny (tfft Grin)

skewiff · 18/01/2011 10:37

Thank you,

I hadn't thought of Dora the Explorer - my son only watches Cbeebies.

Sorry, I do like it as a name, but I can't say Dora without hearing 'the explorer'

sophiesmummie · 20/01/2011 12:11

I like it. I'm sure Dora the explorer won't be around forever.

Chandon · 20/01/2011 12:18

Dora the Explorer has staying power, I reckon she'll be around for eons!

Hatterbox · 21/01/2011 12:33

I think it's lovely.

I wouldn't be concerned about the Dora the Explorer thing people have raised, it's hardly a bad assocation.

After all, people still name their daughters Amelia, and that's the name of a birth defect.

skewiff · 22/01/2011 22:46

I wasn't offended at all. Your comments have made me laugh - a nice relief from feeling tearful and moody since Christmas.

There are so many girls names to choose from (in comparison to boys - for my first) that crossing another one out is helpful - although Dora the explorer won't make me cross this out.

I don't know about the association dying out. Sabrina the Teenage Witch was only on for four years, but I reckon everyone my age would associate the name with the programme. To check, I just called out across the living room to my partner:

"Sabrina-?"
"The teenage witch."
"Dora?"
"The explorer. ... Are we playing a game?"
Grin

But I think that Theodora is a lovely name.
