Megan definitely. It'd be Peggy or Maggie for Margaret not Meg I would of thought. I too would use it as a name in it's own right. Meg Matthews, Meg Ryan.

Meg is historically a short form of Margaret, so Meg and Megan are just variants of the same nn.

Peggy is also a nn: quite why there's the M/P change is beyond me, but this isn't the only example from older names - Molly and Polly are linked nicknames for Mary.

Other nn for Margaret include Meggie, Maggie, Margie, Marge, Margot, Madge, Grete, Gretta, Rita.
