it's a family name - but is it just odd?

to me, it looks like someone made a typo in ElliottBlush

TheMonster · 13/01/2011 21:28

Yes. It's like Elliot spelt wrong.

EauRouge · 13/01/2011 21:35

Oh, I used to know a little old lady called Mrs Ellicott, I walked her dog for her when I was about 8 .

Anyway, is it for a boy or a girl? I think it's fine as a middle name, not sure on first name.

MrsMcCave · 13/01/2011 21:35

It is a very old Westcountry name (where we live) so I don't think anyone here would be too baffled by the choice. I guess its ok as long as we don't decide to move..

EauRouge, I was going to use it anyway for a middle name, I'm just struggling to think of anything for a first name, so I wondered if Ellicott would do. And I suppose it could be either boy or girl, though I was thinking boy - girl would be easier to nickname though, think a boy called Elli might be teased just a little

Sounds like 1. helicopter and 2. a surname rather than a first name.

Grumpla · 13/01/2011 23:23

Will be called Ellicopter at school... just saying...

diddl · 14/01/2011 08:27

It´s odd.

Some family names shouldn´t be passed down imo.

scottishmummy · 14/01/2011 08:40

no.a life of spelling it and folk sniggering

MungBeans · 14/01/2011 11:50

I find it awkward to say - it doesn't roll off the tongue. Elliot is nice though. A know an Elliot and he's a sweet little boy.

seeker · 14/01/2011 11:53

I presume it's not a family first name? Or is it?

orangepoo · 14/01/2011 12:02

People will think it is a typo for Elliot

Hedwig3 · 14/01/2011 12:41

Sounds like the name of a house to to me.

Nightstar · 14/01/2011 13:02

I would use it as a middle name. It's nice to keep family names, but a bit mean to have it as his first name, he will spend his life spelling it out for people.

nancythenaughtyfairy · 14/01/2011 14:01

A bed for a baby elephant.

solo · 14/01/2011 15:55

Will be teased at school and called Ellicock/Ellicocked.

onimolap · 14/01/2011 16:04

I'd keep it in the middle.

tebbles · 14/01/2011 16:50

Does it rhyme with delicate?

MrsMcCave · 14/01/2011 23:57

Ah, the power of Mumsnet. Can't believe that I have never associated Ellicott with Helicopter before, now I always will... Grin Back to the drawing board then, eh?
