I think I prefer Arianna as name, but everyone told me they prefered sienna which was my second choice (friends family etc) so I got carried away and went with it.

We hve been calling her Arianna

Well I felt like we should go and do it, as everyone kept asking me what her name was, and I already cancelled one appointment to register her, and I felt like everyone I know was waiting. Every day is a flood of phone calls and texts asking what we have named her.

I think you can change names once easily before they are 12 months old. (If baptised already I think it complicates things slightly but the registry office will be able to help you).

You just ring/go back to the registry office you used and explain you want to change the name.

They will give you a form to fill in - you then get new birth certificates - the long version has the new name, but also states that the child was previously known by a different name, and states the old name...

The short one simply has the new name on.

Maybe see how you feel in a few weeks, so you have time to see which one you like/suits her the most!

Good luck!

Oh and alot of people on here said they didnt like Sienna and thought Arianna was better too.

I don't understand why people tell others their babies name before they have 100% decided on them and people are very rude to say they don't like the name. If they want to name a baby they should have their own!

bambiandthumper · 11/01/2011 17:26

Rachxx- She's your DD, therefore you should name her. Names are something that everyone has opinion on, but you don't have to listen to them. In the end everyone will associate whatever name you choose with your DD, and then like it.

CabbagefromaBaby · 11/01/2011 17:30

Well, then, her name is Arianna!

I think you should change it. Other people can name their child Sienna if they love it that much.

Arianna Nicole is a lovely name, very glamorous Smile

fel1x · 11/01/2011 17:35

Text everyone back and say she is called Arianna, then call the registrar tomorrow and get the paperwork sorted to change it. It will be fine Smile

rachxx · 11/01/2011 17:38

Speaking from experience, it is possible to change your DCs name on the birth certificate as long as he/she has not been christened (you may have to do it within a certain time limit - not sure). If the baby has been christened you have to change the name by deep poll and the keep the original birth certificate.

tebbles · 11/01/2011 18:14

If you have been calling her Arianna, just change it, offically and then send out all 'baby thank you' cards with her full name. Dont mention it to anyone, the final decsion is yours!

Next time don't discuss it with anyone othter than you DH, they dont sound as if they helped you much! It sounds like a really unsettled experience for you. Arianna is very nice!

ApertureScience · 11/01/2011 18:15

We have been calling her the new name since early December but snow/ice/Christmas/birthdays got in the way so only just been there today, 5 month old doesn't appear to traumatised Grin

My registry office has a fast track for picking up copy of certificate but it takes an hour and I don't need it urgently. I'm sure if you needed it you could get it there and then.

rachxx · 11/01/2011 18:47

Thankyou for all of your advice :)

I think they are both lovely, like that with Arianna she could use Anna as a nn though. Maybe people would get confused with Rhianna though? Sienna Nicole is a lovely combo.

Christmasbelle · 12/01/2011 21:03

I have just changed my DD's name at 15 weeks. It was an extremely straight forward process (if done within 12 months and the baby has not been baptised). Call the registry office and explain the situation. They will send you out a form to complete with the new name you wish her to be called. If you want a copy of the BC it costs £7 each (for long and short). We kept her original first name as her second middle name, due to the fact that the original name still remains in box 2 but the new full name appears in box 17. This just felt right for us to do this but just do what you feel is right for you, your partner and your DD Wink

Mousesmummy · 12/01/2011 21:58

I would just add that you should let this be a lesson to you to (mostly) ignore other people's opinions in future.
You will be inundated with advice from folk about food, weaning, vaccinations, sleep routines, blah blah blah ad infinitum.
She is YOUR beautiful baby and you are responsible for her - no-one else! You will have to get used to telling flok politely to 'mind their own business'!
Try not to be overly influenced/pressured by folk!
And Arianna is lovely btw x

my dad is called Alastair but was registered Robert! no change to birth cert, just always said I'm called Alastair Shock

ALongDecember · 13/01/2011 22:02

Oops Blush well I am very northern so that's probably why. Think some washer woman on Corrie Grin

NotAnotherNewNappy · 13/01/2011 23:06

Sienna is nice - but Arianna is beautiful. Have you reregistered her yet? I couldn't decide what to have for tea after only 2 1/2 weeks, so I'm not surprised you found it hard to put your foot down on the name you preferred.

ohnoshedittant · 14/01/2011 02:39

Sienna is much nicer. Leave it as it is.
