Irving?

Any opinions? Or any similar old and recogniseable but unusual names ...

I prefer Irvine, to Irving.

What about Stirling?

I love it.

Irving is awful.Stirling is much nicer.

And Stirling Moss was born in 1929,and an American screenwriter and producer also called Stirling,was born in 1918,so I wouldn't say it was particuarly modern.

Stirling is also a pretty crap city in Scotland...

TBH, I thought everyone would hate it - surprised by the positive comments so far. The only Irvings I can think of are Irving Berlin and Washington Irving (ok, I know, its a surname). I think Stirling/Sterling would lead to some wry remarks, as DH is reknowned for his parsimony (for which read he's really tight)

I immediately thought of Irvine Welsh (who wrote Trainspotting amoungst other things)
