Girl's names help please...

Just found out we are having a baby girl :-)

Would really appreciate thoughts on names below pls:
Philippa
Poppy
Ava

Ava will date - badly!

Philippa is classic, nice shortened to Pippa, but you do need to be quite well spoken to get away with it

Poppy - much more normal, unless you are posh then go with this one IMO

Ava and Poppy are very popular right now and Poppy is a little too twee for my taste.

Philippa is lovely and I only know one who is known as Pippa.

Ava and Poppy popular imo Phillipa is a up and comming name will be in top 20 soon.

prefeer Poppy and Ava never carred much for Phillipa personally

Ava and Poppy are ten a penny. Ava in particular is going to date.

Philippa is lovely but I suspect is going to be popular soon too. I don't hear it as posh at all.

Philippa is a great name. Quite unusual without being weird. Not too posh either. Its also a lovely name for a child AND an adult, which I'm not sure you can say for Poppy. Ava is also good for that.

No one will ever be able to spell it properly though which can get a bit tiresome. And make sure you don't spell it Phillipa!

Philippa is the nicest on your list, a classic that will go through an entire life. Lovely nn potential (Pippa, Pippy, etc) and lovely formal name.

Poppy is very much a young person's name -- think of a 53 yo woman named Poppy? Nice for a granny though...

Ava is lovely but very popular if that puts you off.

I have a Philippa- 13 weeks tomorrow. We call her Pippa.
We are not particularly well spoken Grin.

Agree about the spelling, though- but also have an Elliot, so well used to getting numerous variations on spellings.
Love it. Obviously.

Still love all three names :-) Philippa was the first name that came into my mind so leaning towards that even more now. Decisions decisions... Hadn't really thought about the name getting dated or what it would sound like on a pensioner :-) Well spoken?... My English was acquired at age 9 as a second language in Sweden so there may possibly be a Swedish meatball accent sneaking in now and again :-)

All nice names but I know alot of dogs called Poppy.

I like Phillipa....and I like Phyllida too.

Philippa - love, I went to school with a Philippa (nn Pippa) and she is lovely. I also like Philly as a nn.

Poppy - not sure if it works as a grown up name

Ava - love, but prefer Philippa

Hmmm think Poppy is off the list, just realised I have an acquaintance with a King Charles Spaniel called Poppy... Thanks for the hint littleyellowteapot!

Are two names really a shortlist though? Any ideas for inspirational places to look pls (other than mumsnet, been through the names here already)?

Poppy is lovely for small children, but not teenager friendly enough. Call her philippa and nn her poppy? she can stick with the nn if she likes it and swap it for something more grown up if she doesn't.

Love Ava but agree, it's going to date.

Poppy is gorgeous, but my brother's beautiful and lovely girlfriend is Poppy so I'm slightly biased! She's 18 though... I do know a few Poppys, and they are all teenagers.

Philippa is my favourite of the three, absolutely beautiful imo :) Go for that, I say! It's pretty timeless, I've known girls and women called Philippa from toddlers, teenagers, adults, old ladies... classic, go for it.

Very belatedly, we didn't go with any of the names above, although lovely... Our little Clara was born on 27th April and is such a little ray of sunshine! Only pooed through two changes of clothing, one dress (mine) and the baby bouncer. Oh, and she smiled at and puked on the dr today too! Welcome to parenthood?! Thanks all for input again!:-) x

Can i wade in and out myself i have the have to be well spoken name myself which over the years i have shortened, i love my name a lot, however i find the full name always made me feel like i was being told off even used in the nicest possible voice.

please be aware the word Pippa has interesting connotations in GreeceBlush, I personally get a giggle from this but everybody is different

Anywho as a Phil myself i love my name and highly recommend it Grin

Love Poppy too its my DDs middle name, thought if i used it as a main name we would sound like bad Childrens entertainers

Ava is a classic name that has recently become very popular ...granny chic I believe, It won't date! Lovely!

Poppy on the other hand is one of those 'trendy of the moment' names that I feel will date.

Philipa is also a classic name, I think it will become more popular due to the Middleton connection. Nice enough though!
