Harry? How many do you know?

I really like this name but suspect it's in the top 20, still, I like it. Maybe not as popular as Archie / Alfie? I feel it "goes" well with my daughters name of Daisy & works with the triple syllable surname. I'd be interested to hear opinions or other suggestions!

There are at least 10 at DS1's school, all aged between 7 and 13. I know at least 4 others ranging from 18 to 2.

Just one - mine Grin. Everyone really seems to like the name - especially the older generation. People really comment on it in a friendly way Smile

pinkhebe · 23/12/2010 17:03

2 who are 11. I think it's a lovely name and so what if it's popular, it's popular for a reason Grin

Great response! Thanks! It's good to get feedback. I agree with the - if you like it go for it, popular for a reason! Highlandgirl - that helps, I seem to remember glancing at the stats & seeing it was much more popular in England than Scotland which is good as I live in Scotland! I've not come across it here (apart from a Harris) whereas I know of 5 or more Archie's. Names seem to be very much regional in their popularity. Like the Henry suggestion too as well as Harrison / Harris. It's still up there on the list!

Ok, one more thing, DD aged 4 likes the name too due to Harry Potter! Thing is the surname is Peterkin, is it too close?! Would I be fating him to a Harry Potterkin type nickname??!! Hmm

I know two, one is in his 80s and the other is 8 months. both tend to drool a lot

LLJ4 · 23/12/2010 22:45

Mm. Harry Peterkin would make me hear "Harry Potter ken ... what?"

Shame. I don't think the HP phenomenon is going away any time soon.

blackeyedsusan · 24/12/2010 02:08

1 age prob 70 now
1 age approx 20
and one small spectacle wearingunusual boy with a lightening shaped scar on his head

It is a brilliant name. love it.

badkitty · 29/12/2010 18:03

1 age 2 (my DS1). Not come across any others in any groups I have been to with him over the last 2 years!

1 age 33.

Its my favourite boy's name so I didn't care about the popularity, but actually I have been pleasantly surprised that there don't seem to be many of them around here anyway. I think you can't set that much store by the charts as they don't really tell you what is going to be popular in your specific area and with your peer group so you may as well just pick a name you love. Harry Peterkin sounds lovely!

MrsJohnDeere · 29/12/2010 18:08

Three, aged two, four, and five. All have Harry as their 'proper' name, nit a nn.
Also three Henrys (who are never known as Harry), aged eight, seven, and four.

TheGoddessBlossom · 29/12/2010 18:08

I know only one - mine aged 6. It is my favourite boys name (obviously in that I called my PFB it)

Great name. Don't know any others around here.

TheGoddessBlossom · 29/12/2010 18:09

Hi syounger brother shortens it to "habs" which I think is adorable. Xmas Grin

Lonnie · 29/12/2010 18:09

I know 7 4 of them is in my kids very small primary school (of 103 students)

It is very popular but if you love it then dont et that bother you. At least he will not get "how do you spell that?" every time he says his name

MrsJohnDeere · 29/12/2010 18:09

You cant move for Archies and Alfies round these parts in the 2-4 age group.

Clary · 29/12/2010 22:50

I know 5 or 6 of the top of my head.

Aged between 10 and 5.

I do know a lot of children tho, many many more Jameses and Matthews and Dans and Ollies and Sams and Adams than Harrys. FWIW.

Oooh just remembered it's a very popular name for some reason at the school where I work; only about half the kids are white but of those, about a quarter of the boys in yr 7 and 8 (so aged 11-12-13) seem to be called Harry.

earlgreyismynectar · 31/12/2010 08:43

Thanks for feedback! That really helps to hear others perspective. I still love it & it feels right with the surname & my daughters name. Good to hear no issues with Harry Potter either re our surname!! As for popularity it would seem to be very much regional as with any name I suppose, it's much less popular in Scotland where we are :) Anyone else?!

I have a 10 year old Harry and a 7 year old Alfie.

I only know of one other Harry, dont know any other Alfies.

Harry is my favourite ever boys name, Its timeless I think.

onimolap · 31/12/2010 08:49

I know 6 children under 10, and a similar number of adults; always remembering a golden Labrador.

It's a lovely name.

gorionine · 31/12/2010 08:54

3 Harry in DD4's nursery

1 Harrison in reception

All born the same year

indiechick · 31/12/2010 09:25

One in dd1's class and one at dd2's nursery. The one in dd1's class is incredibly charismatic for a six year old, he is liked by every kid, absolutely lovely. For this reason I really like the name.

FIMBOisfirstfootin2moro · 31/12/2010 09:29

I know 5 children with the name Harry. My 78yr old dad has a few Harry friends though....
