what can Sasha be a girls' nn for?

I think it's actually short for Alexandra, but i know someone called Saskia who pronounces it Sasha

I thought Alexandra as well but I know someone called Natasha who goes by Sasha

Normally it is a boys' nickname for Alexander. I guess it could be used for Alexandra as well?

Definitely Alexandra or Alexander!

-asha is a typical Russian suffix for nicknames / endearments (Maria / Masha, Natalia / Natasha, Daria / Dasha, Alexei / Aliosha etc.)

Sacha is the nn for Alexander (typically Russian) same as using Sandy for Alexander. For a girl I would assume Alexandra. I like Sasha for a girl, I wouldn't worry about it being nicknamey. I am 32 weeks pregnant and have mentioned it to husband a few times, but he associates it with Barrack Obama's daughter.

DD is Sasha, so to me it's a name in its own right. I've never been asked what it's short for. If you like it more than the long versions, why not just use it?

My DD is Sacha ( i liked that spelling better and back then there was no Baron-Cohen) and she is Alexandra.

We alternate but despite LOVING Alexandra I did not like Alex so she is Sacha to most of the world!

Sasha is a NN for Alexandra (well, at least in Russia and Eastern Europe). it is too casual on its own, although i have met a few americans (mostly jewish) who have this as a full name. Love Alexandra, but would not name Sasha as a full name...

i think sasha is a lovely name on its own. natasha isnt a very nice name and alexandra isnt that nice either.

I know too many male Sashas (short for Alexander) that I can't associate it with girls (yet) Smile.

Natasha is lovely but wouldn't generelly be shortened to Sasha (although I know the Obamas have).

It's not a name that I would immediately associate as being a nickname, but if you did go with Alexandra then it would give your DD more options if she ever decided she wasn't keen.

I picture it as entirely a boys' name too.

But if that's the sort of name you want, then I'd say it would go with Alexandra.

Sascha is a very common boys name in Germany, I think the Russian spelling is also Sascha.

In France it is spelt Sacha (as in French you pronounce the ch as sh).

I would find it weird meeting a female Sascha/Sasha/Sacha but I'm sure I could get used to it.
