What????

Unless you want Herod or Jesus I think pretty much anything goes.

coldtits · 20/12/2010 17:27

Amira's really pretty

GrimmaTheNome · 20/12/2010 17:27

I can't see any reason why not. I know a lot of ethnically Chinese and Indian people who have 'English' names, no-one thinks that's odd. Its pretty, easy to spell and pronounce - if you both like it, go for it.

FattyArbuckel · 20/12/2010 17:28

I love the name - although people will ask you if its after Amira in Eastenders

Spidermama · 20/12/2010 17:29

I think it's a lovely name. I wouldn't mind where it came from. It's lovely and rare yet easy to pronouce.

AllieW · 20/12/2010 17:36

Absolutely. I know one (she's 4).

rachxx · 20/12/2010 17:41

Thankyou for your help. Yes it is annoying about the eastenders onnection. But another year or so and everyone will forget about it.

I think so, yes,why not?

DilysPrice · 20/12/2010 17:49

I do think it's a bit Hmm/Confused when you give children names from a totally random culture, but it is a beautiful name, and easy to pronounce and spell, so if you can put up with the occasional raised eyebrow then it's no biggy.

Chaotica · 20/12/2010 18:00

I like it too. Don't see a problem using it. (Goes off to cook tea for Herod and Allah... Wink)

going · 20/12/2010 18:01

I think it's very pretty and would you use it.

ShoppingDays · 20/12/2010 18:17

Very nice :)

Chocolocolate · 20/12/2010 19:07

I know a little English (no Indian origin at all) Amira.

It is a pretty name.

Lonnie · 20/12/2010 19:41

Its beautiful

Nightstar · 20/12/2010 19:50

I didnt think immediately it was Indian, in fact it isnt Indian is Arabic and means Princess, what would it matter anyway. I have a welsh name and i'm not welsh. If it does bother you go for Alvira, which is English.

KeithTalent · 20/12/2010 21:03

I know an Amira.

Dad is Moroccan, mum is English.

Really pretty and works well in both languages imo.

tomorrowsanotherday · 20/12/2010 21:58

I don't think it matters. My name is Greek and Im mixed race with no Greek in me at all. So what?
And like you said people will forget the Eastenders connection in a year or so.
If you like it go for it Smile

MerryMarigold · 20/12/2010 21:59

I thought it was a Kenyan name. If it's a name in enough countries (like Nia) then I think it's just an 'international' name! Grin

umiaisha · 21/12/2010 09:46

I think it depends on your surname to be honest..

growing3rdbump · 21/12/2010 12:18

I teach an Emira - I think she's arabic. Gorgeous name!

Secretwishescometrue · 21/12/2010 13:25

It's a beautiful name, was no.2 on my girls short list :) its Arabic for princess and I think its lovely def go for it if ye love it!

Firawla · 21/12/2010 14:18

it is a beautiful name
tbh yes i might wonder like is your oh arab or something, but i dont think thats such an issue. if people ask u can just say no and thats the end of it? alot of english people use layla so i dont really see what the difference is

rachxx · 21/12/2010 14:47

Thanks everyone, have decided against it, as much as I love it
