Amy, Aimie, Aimee or something completely different?!

DH and I are thinking of trying to conceive baby number 2 in the new year (I know, I swore never again!) Anyway, we both love the name Amy and can't decide how to spell it. I like it Amy, simple.

I also like the names Isla, Anna- (dh not keen) and Beth but really doesn't flow well with our surname so it's a definite no even though I love it.

SO any more ideas? Our surname starts with M and has 2 sylables.

DD's middle name is Aimee and I hate it. If you choose Amy, spell it Amy.

meandjoe · 19/12/2010 14:04

You hate it??! Why do u hate it, is it the name or the spelling? I really don't like the look of Aimee but DH says the Amy looks American, which is true.

Amy not Aimee.
I like Isla too.
How about Amelia?

ShakinScarecrow · 19/12/2010 14:31

Yes, but you must spell it Amy.

Northernrose · 19/12/2010 14:38

Amy - has to be that spelling!
lovely name - everyone knows it but not mega common. We must have similar taste in names as my god-daughter is Isla, our DD is Anna and if DC2, due in June, is a girl she will be Beth!
Also love Hannah and Emily.
How about Kate/Katie, or Elsie?

meandjoe · 19/12/2010 14:45

I adore Kate too but again like Beth it doesn't flow well with our surname, first name really needs to have 2 sylables unfortunitely! Yes our taste in names seems identical! I love classic names that are really pretty and never in or out of fashion.

If you want to call your child Amy, call her Amy. Superfluous Is and Es not necessary.

cece · 19/12/2010 15:18

Amy - no need for fancy i and e added in to confuse people (me for one!)

Other options with two syllables that are classic imo;

Emma
Annie
Nina
Clara
Thea
Chloe
Janie
Sophie
Nicole
Cleo
Esme
Esther
Helen

readywithwellies · 19/12/2010 16:37

I know an Amii. Hmm

Yorky · 19/12/2010 16:52

DD is Amy, love it as simple but pretty I think.
Also like Beth a lot but I can't have one as my friend 'nicked' it! We would have used Bethany but called her Beth which gives you more options - she would have been Bethany Kate after a very lovely relative

suwoo · 19/12/2010 18:01

I hate it because it looks chavvy. Her first name negates it somewhat though. And yes, I did choose it. Well DH did and I agreed.

AllieW · 19/12/2010 18:42

The only Amy/Aimees I know (and I do know one with the latter spelling which, strictly speaking, ought to have an accent on the first e since it is the French spelling) are of my age or ever so slightly younger. I think both spellings are ok, but I'm not overly keen on the name. Sorry. I would suggest Amelia/Amelie/Emily/Emilia instead, but they are all fairly ubiquitous now. Of course, if that doesn't bother you, you may consider them viable alternatives.

JojoMags · 19/12/2010 18:47

Amy is lovely, but only if you stick to spelling it Amy!

meandjoe · 19/12/2010 19:42

Thanks all. I love Amy but do keep coming back to Beth dispite it being truly grim with our last name, I have considerdd bethany but not overly keen on it to be honest. Prefer Bethen but again does not really flow with our surname. Really for a girl the name needs to end with a y sound or an a sound in order for it to flow properly.

I do appreciate the input though. Any new suggestions are welcome!

Lucy
Amelie
Lottie

meandjoe · 19/12/2010 19:47

readywithwellies Amii is truly awful spelling!!! Then again I guess u can spell a name however the hell you want but don't you think the spelling of it totally changes how you feel it? For example, my name is Abigail, nota massive fan of it but I suppose not many people like their own name but I know an Abbygayle and it's almost like it's not even the same name although it's pronounced exactly the same! It just looks so awkward spelt that way.

meandjoe · 19/12/2010 19:47

Oooh Lottie is beautiful!

meandjoe · 19/12/2010 19:57
