What do you think? If we go with Lexie do we call her Alexis?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
discobeaver · 16/12/2010 13:52

I like Lexie, but then my partner said in a really thick Scottish (Glaswegian?) accent - "Aye, sexy lexie" and it put me right off. he's not Scottish, but it sounded awful in that accent, whcih was his purpose.

Also Lydia is lid of your teapot/dustbin. Sorry.

diddl · 16/12/2010 15:19

"Also Lydia is lid of your teapot/dustbin. Sorry."

That would never occur to me at all.

Where do people hear these things?

AllieW · 16/12/2010 15:21

Sounds like a Dad joke to me. Not something which would occur to me either.

mathanxiety · 16/12/2010 15:24

Lydia. Lexie has x rated undertones.

itfcbabe · 16/12/2010 15:27

i love the name Lydia

Lexie reminds me of roxie from eastenders ok as a short version of Alexandra but not on its own

JiltedJohnsJulie · 16/12/2010 15:30

Lydia.

Greenwing · 16/12/2010 23:28

Definitely Lydia - a pretty, classical name.
Sexy Lexie will date quickly as suddenly popular just recently?

pinkstinks · 17/12/2010 00:02

have to buck the trend and prefer lexie sorry!
Had a friend at uni called "lydia chlamydia"

Firawla · 17/12/2010 22:06

lydia!

johnnycomelurky · 17/12/2010 22:18

oh pinkstinks, I couldn't remember why my OH vetoed Lydia - but that was it!

I like Lexie and have Alexandra on shortlist but am also worried about the sudden popularity of Lexie and the trend to hyphenate it with another name like Lexie-may (shudders)

VivaLeBeaver · 17/12/2010 22:23

Lexie is a dog or a porn star/hooker.

BibiBelle · 17/12/2010 22:36

REALLY people - wagish and chav - nice Hmm

both lovely

BibiBelle · 17/12/2010 22:38

and discobeaver - Lexie is scottish for Sparkling which is a rather lovely name to give a child regardless of how an accent sounds

Chynah · 17/12/2010 22:57

DD is Lexi (nn) but I wouldn't have wanted it as her BC name. Prefer it to Lydia though.

Beamur · 17/12/2010 23:01

I prefer Lydia, but I like a classic name, Lexie more modern.

dolcegusto · 17/12/2010 23:09

I have a Lydia. Love it. Never had any negative comments about it.

Edmundo · 18/12/2010 00:19

Lydia is FAR nicer!

ReshapeWhileDamp · 19/12/2010 18:13

I love, love, love Lydia. I am so sad I'll (almost certainly) never have a DD and get to name her that. DH was a bit Hmm at the name but sorry mate: if we'd had a daughter she'd have been Lydia. Have just told DH, in fact, that if this baby bucks the very clear scans and proves to be a girl instead, I automatically get to call her Lydia, no argument. Grin

(Have never seen such a clear willy on a scan, BTW.)

I agree with the person who suggested that Lexie has X-rated undertones. It really does.

KittyBigglesworth · 19/12/2010 21:45

Lydia.

Lexie is rather footballers' wives, fine if you want to be a footballer's wife, though.

I think Lydia is lovely, and think of the HE Bates novel or the Jane Austen character when I hear it,

I think Alexandra us a lovely name and Lexie is OK as a nn. I'm less keen on Alexis for a girl, as despite many years of Dynasty watching it remains a unisex name to me.

lololizzy · 22/12/2010 00:32

Lydia v pretty....but a Lydia i knew was always 'Diddy Lyddy'

happysunshinedays · 22/12/2010 08:31

Lydia is lovely. I have Lexie Locks. Not her actual name, she's an Isla Alexandra but was call her Lexie Locks.

fortyplus · 22/12/2010 08:35

I'm frightfully middle class and know a couple of Lydias but no Lexies Xmas Wink

Komondor · 22/12/2010 10:13
