Charmaine Diana

Working on list for dc3 very early! (Just had dc2). Anyhow, love Charmaine and Diana is after my Mum, Diane, who died when I was 13. Charmaine is pronounced Shar-main, btw. I also quite like Charmian (pn Car-mian).

Since Charmin' have now rebranded I don't care about that objection!

My two children are Imogen Sophia and Arthur Henry - does Charmaine work as a sib?

Charmain doesn't really work with the sibling names. Nor with Diana.

What about Carmen?

llareggub · 14/12/2010 14:05

Not at all, sorry! Diana would be better as a first name with her siblings. Charmaine doesn't work at all.

KERALA1 · 14/12/2010 14:06

I really really like the names of your existing children. Sorry but personally think Charmaine is a dreadful name. It sounds like a middle aged lady who is often thrown out of pubs for being drunk. Shudder at the thought of a newborn Charmaine.

BunnyLebowski · 14/12/2010 14:07

I really don't like it. Sorry Blush.

In my opinion it doesn't go with your other dc's names at all (which btw are both fab names).

Charmaine sounds very 90's, naff and not very classy in comparison.

How about (if you want to stick with the letter C)

Charlotte Diana
Carine Diana
Corina Diana
Cara Diana

festivecoatgate · 14/12/2010 14:08

Why not Diane instead of Diana? Don't like Charmaine sorry.

5GoldenFimbos · 14/12/2010 14:09

Your other dc have lovely names why spoil it.

Its like having Roxy, Jayden and then Susannah.

Isabella Diane

Katherine Diana (too Royal Wedding)

5GoldenFimbos · 14/12/2010 14:10

Phoebe Diana?

ReshapeWhileDamp · 14/12/2010 14:10

Sorry, that sounds like a really cheap-sounding name. Blush And very 80's for some reason.

Love Imogen and Arthur! Charmaine just doesn't go. Charmian is a bit better (Anthony and Cleopatra!) but not much.

RockinSockBunnies · 14/12/2010 14:11

Charmaine definitely doesn't go with siblings' names. I can't stand the name - it reminds me of 1980s, short-skirted women in Ford Capris.

Not keen on Diana. What about Dinah?

AllieW · 14/12/2010 14:11

Looks like that's out then. Oh well.

Enjoy life with your new born and other child - you have plenty of time to choose a name.

belgo · 14/12/2010 14:12

Charlotte Diana sounds lovely.

AllieW · 14/12/2010 14:14

Indeed, I know, Golden. Thanks everyone.

I'm sorry but I hate it.

Imogen Sophia on the other hand, is lovely!

MarniesMummy · 14/12/2010 14:17

I think it's sounds cheap and horrible. (Sorry!)

Strange as i wouldn't say that of either Imogen or Arthur. (Unless you insist on using both names - as in "Hello Imogen Sophia" as apposed to "Hello Imogen", in every day life which is yuk too.

Any other options?

LadyWellian · 14/12/2010 14:18

Charmian is nice though, and goes with sibs' names. Although the one I knew (and only one, so it's pretty unusual) was Shar-mian, not Car-mian.

I'd steer clear of Diana. If you want to name after your mum, why not use her actual name?

AllieW · 14/12/2010 14:24

No we don't use both names kuje that Marnies Mummy.

Just not so sure Ilike Diane as much LadyWellian. Equally with Immy's mn being Sophia it seemed more in keeping.

For what it's worth, the rest of my considerations are:

Amabel
Anastasia
Annabelle
Arabella
Ava
Beatrice
Constance (nn Connie)
Coralie
Emily
Elysia
Fabienne
Felicity
Florence
Francesca
Genevieve (Vivi as nn??)
Heidi
Hermione
Jasmine
Josette (Josie as nn)
Julia/ Juliette
Lilia
Lois
May (but only for a May baby)
Mirabelle
Miranda
Miriam
Ottilie
Pearl
Rosalie
Rose
Sylvie

Ah well then. Beatrice Emily after my great-grandmother. Or Emily Beatrice after my great-great-geandmother. (See what they did there? Grin)

AllieW · 14/12/2010 14:31

Emily Florence was the name of my Grandma, so those two are definitely high up among the possibles. Frankly, I'm quite taken by Florence Diana.

I think Charmaine was an abberation, that's a list of lovely names.

AllieW · 14/12/2010 14:32

Entirely possible, MarniesMummy! I blame the breastfeeding hormones, they do odd things to me I'm convinced!

OP posts:
MarniesMummy · 14/12/2010 14:32

Aberration???

I mean anomaly, sorry! Blush

AllieW · 14/12/2010 14:32

Knew what you meant!

Runoutofideas · 14/12/2010 14:34

To me, every single name on your list is nicer than Charmaine - my favourites are Francesca, Genevieve, Hermione and Ottilie and I think they all go better with your existing names. FWIW if we ever have dd3 she will be an Imogen...

ShoppingDays · 14/12/2010 16:09

Diana is a lovely name, and underused at the moment.

I really like your "longlist", there are many lovely names on there :)
