George for our little boy due in Jan. What is the MN consensus on this?

I don't like new "trendy" names, prefer traditional and dp likes "strong" boys names. I wasn't sure, but the more I say it, the more I like it, it's just so lovely.

Lovely. And congratulations Smile

CheerfulYank · 11/12/2010 20:15

Like it! I am thinking of Georgie as a nn for Georgiana if I have a DD next time.

It's cute I think :)

RockLovesMincePies · 11/12/2010 20:16

Thank you :).

I have a 5yo dd from my previous marriage, she is called Emilia. I hope their names will go together ok.

I have a very DB named George. It's a fantastic name Grin

MelinaM · 11/12/2010 20:24

Absolutely love the names George! ...and the huge plus point is that it can't be shortened!!! x

RockLovesMincePies · 11/12/2010 20:26

That's very true Melina, hadn't thought of that!

Totally fab and brilliant name for a boy Xmas Grin.

MelinaM · 11/12/2010 20:29

..but it can be lengthened to Georgie, but that's no great shakes! Fab name choice, well done! x

tummytickler · 11/12/2010 20:30

I love George. Classic, strong, yet cute.

ShoppingDays · 11/12/2010 20:30

Fabulous classic name :)

ChippingIn · 11/12/2010 20:31

It's one of those names that always makes me smile. It seems so incredibly old fashioned and a bit 'Rainbow' as well Grin but it has made a come back hasn't it! It seems far too serious for a wee baby though, but great for when he's all grown up and Georgie is cute when he's little :)

RockLovesMincePies · 11/12/2010 20:32

I'm glad so many people like George, I wouldn't like to saddle the poor boy with a hideous name lol.

My dsis had some very "interesting" name ideas for her ds. Luckily her and dbil plumped for Noah which I also think is a fab name.

RockLovesMincePies · 11/12/2010 20:36

Oh I am pretty sure he will get called Georgie lol.

My dd's name doesn't shorten into anything terribly cute, so the poor girl gets called all sorts of rubbish nicknames (mainly by me Blush).

At least her brother won't have the same problem.

I really like George.
But actually its lack of NN is a slight downside for me. I like flexibility in a name.

I have a William (he's Billy for now, suspect Will when older).

Emilia is lovely btw. George is a bit more trad English to me. Something like Joseph would have a more universally cultural similiarity to Emilia IMO.

RockLovesMincePies · 11/12/2010 22:04

Well, Emilia was named after one of the aunts of my spanish exh..in fact that's dd's second name. But as is culturally correct in Spain, she has always been referred to by the second name.

My dp is of english/scottish heritage my family is just very english lol so he and I wanted to reflect that with our son's name.

Dd's first name is fairly traditional though.

(Will probably give awy my real life ID now) but my brother's nickname is Jets as in George Jetson. It has stuck for over 15 years.

Milly and Jets, It's not bad :)

RockLovesMincePies · 11/12/2010 22:18

Lol, sounds good wrinkly.

Rachy91 · 11/12/2010 22:27

love the name george! wanted to use it for bump before she turned out to be a girl but OH vetos it as its his and his dads name too :(

OctaviaOstrichJollster · 12/12/2010 07:04

that makes sense mince; George is lovely. Classic and timeless, and FWIW the little Georges I know are all gorgeous. And then there's Mr Clooney of course.

perpetuallypregnant · 12/12/2010 22:57

Definitely on my shortlist if DC5 is a boy. It was my boys name for DD3. I love it, it's very strong and masculine but also very very cute for a baby. :)

mathanxiety · 13/12/2010 06:18

Very charming name for a baby and little boy and it ages really well afterwards.

spler · 14/12/2010 20:19

Gorgeous. Strong and traditional. Good luck with the birth Smile
