Tabitha, Rosina or Jemima?

Tabitha, Rosina or Jemima?

One of them is an old family name and also the only one I can get DH to agree to.

Middle name will probably be Elsie, also family name.

Just for fun (as I can't get DH to budge Xmas Grin), which one do you prefer? We already have an Eliza.

I like Tabitha. Rosina sounds a bit like a skin condition to me, sorry. And as an American, I can't handle Jemima.

Hedwig3 · 09/12/2010 13:47

Tabitha Xmas Grin

or

Jemima Xmas Smile

smilingserenely · 09/12/2010 17:50

love tabitha dd3's name also love jemima would have been dd4's if dh had not vetoed it because it's his niece's name

rosina ok but prefer rosanna

smilingserenely · 09/12/2010 17:52

only other consideration is with e as a middle initial could it with your surmame initial form any unfortunate words

minipie · 09/12/2010 18:09

think of the nicknames/shortenings.

Jemima (Jem) or Rosina (Ros, Rose, Rosie) work.

Tabitha does not. (Tabby? Bitty?)

babysbreath · 09/12/2010 20:10

I adore Tabitha.

There was a progamme in the 60's - and she use to wiggle her nose to cast a spell - her name was Tabitha (I think).

Lovely, Lovely Name.

MerryMarigold · 09/12/2010 20:12

I like Jemima - but doesn't really go with Elsie

Def NOT Rosina

Elsie is nice for first name

panettoinydog · 09/12/2010 20:23

Not Jemimam. So mimsy.

Tabitha is too cat.

Rosina is ok but Rosa so very much lovelier.

AndOnAndOnAndOn · 09/12/2010 20:31

Jemima. Or Rosa. Others are okay but prefer these two.

NotAnotherNewNappy · 09/12/2010 20:45

I make that:

Tabitha 10
Rosina 9
Jemima 6

Rosina is the family name we will probably go with. Hadn't thought of Nena as an nn, that's lovely - thanks ivykaty

I love all three, would probably choose Tabitha if it was just up to me. I've never met a cat called Tabitha and, like babysbreath, think only of the very cute little girl in Bewitched.

Jemima is also lovely. The playschool and Beatrix Potter connotations wouldn't put me off at all, very dated now. I tend to think rather of the v glam Jemima Khan.

Elsie is very cute as a first name - but it's a derivative of Elizabeth and as we already have an Eliza we can't do that.

What to do? It's almost enough to make me try for 4 DDs Wink

How about Elsa? Isn't that a name in it's own right?

ShoppingDays · 09/12/2010 21:01

Or Eloise?

Suncottage · 09/12/2010 21:07

I love Jemima, I always thought it was the feminine of James but the meaning was 'dove'.

Maybe I am wrong Xmas Smile

MuffinMouse · 09/12/2010 22:01

Great choices. I would order them:

  1. Jemima (as way out in front)
  2. Tabitha (ok)
  3. Rosina (much prefer Roseanna though)

if you chose Nina, I'd go for:

  1. Jemima
  2. Nina
  3. Tabitha

I agree that Jemima is rather glamourous.

MissHavishamsDress · 09/12/2010 22:10

All gorgeous, I think those in favour of the above names argue their points far more eloquently Grin

My favourite is Tabitha, which was my favourite name for years but has recently been ousted by Violet, Pearl and Daphne.

dontforgetthejoker · 09/12/2010 22:31

Tabitha

paperchainqueen · 09/12/2010 22:43

Tabitha

Rhubarbgarden · 10/12/2010 08:41

I LOVE Tabitha but it sounds naff with our surname which is immensely annoying.

AllieW · 10/12/2010 09:56

I know an 18 year old Rosina (middle name Persephone!). She's lovely so would go with that of the three. Tend to prefer Rosalie myself, though.

vampiresdontsparkle · 10/12/2010 11:10

Jemima is the best name ever!! Wink Grin I get called Jem, Mima, Mimes. and jiggles for a totaly different reason Blush

effymeffy · 10/12/2010 12:36

love tabitha :)

PineappleJuice · 17/12/2010 16:37

Tabitha or Jemima

Kathabitha · 18/12/2010 20:26

I've got a Tabitha and a Jemima - so I'd probably choose those two. You have excellent taste may I say.
