...For a girl or boy? I have already reluctantly ruled out Wallis (for a girl) but perhaps things along those lines?

Those lists from Tomhardy are fabulous - very glam and US - Dolores, Velma, Jewel, Georgette, and Robert for girls, Marion for boys.

I really love Phyllis. It was my grandma's name and I never thought I'd like it (she hated it). But I've been reading 'The Children's Book' by A S Byatt and it's really grown on me.

I liked some of MrToad's suggestions - 2 friends have recently called their DDs Evelyn and Vivienne respectively, think they are lovely, and unusual without being wacky.
