Me and my boyfriend love love love this name, to the point where we just cannot agree on any other girl's name. My boyfriend doesn't care, but I am getting a bit caught up in the worry of her being one of about 6 Rubys in her class.

How many Rubys do you all know? And am I being precious? Grin

I know loads here in Surrey. I agree, any very popular name that has risen in popularity will inevitably fall out of favour again and start to feel 'dated' at some point. But if you love no other name as much, then I'd use it anyway.

BarbieLovesKen · 30/11/2010 21:26

I only know one! Shes 4. I've never heard of or met another around here.

I know its a factor but dont look back in a few years and regret using a name because of its popularity. Theres a reason that some names are so widely chosen - cos they are loved!!

Tingry · 30/11/2010 21:27

I know of one, she's 6 yo.

Becky321 · 30/11/2010 23:08

I know 2, one aged 3 and one aged 80! It's a lovely name, and you never know what other names she would get in her class.

RobynLou · 30/11/2010 23:11

it's a gorgeous name, which is why it's so popular!
I know 4 Rubys under 3

TheNextMrsDepp · 30/11/2010 23:12

I know a 9-yo and a 2-yo Ruby. Sweet name.

BuntyPenfold · 01/12/2010 11:29

I know lots, but 2-4 yrs, not babies.
Baby girls all called Eve/Evie/Ava or Lily/Lola.

Rhubarbgarden · 01/12/2010 19:54

None.

thisisyesterday · 01/12/2010 19:58

i know 2. both small babies

autodidact · 01/12/2010 20:15

Ruby was the 2nd most popular girls name of 2008 and 2009 (4555 Rubys in 2009) so, statistically at least, it is quite likely there'll be another one or two in her class at some point. However, my twin sons (11) have names that are perenially top 10 and one has never been in a class with someone of the same name. The other went through 2 primary schools known as Firstname SurnameInitial. He didn't seem to mind, luckily.

I really like Ruby and know of only one, aged about 9.

YuleBeLucky · 01/12/2010 20:58

I know one, aged 3 yrs old, and one who is in her thirties.

onimolap · 01/12/2010 21:10

I know only one, and she's 4.

But I always think "Ruby"="Ruby Murray"="curry"

MumInBeds · 01/12/2010 21:15

I know 4, none babies, they are aged between 3 and 7 years old - those Kaiser Chiefs have a lot to answer for?

RorysRacingReindeer · 01/12/2010 21:17

two i think but i know at least 6 'Amelie's aged 4/5

Rose and variants also see very popular

whoknowswhatthefutureholds · 01/12/2010 21:21

I know 7, most are about 5

Dolanette · 01/12/2010 21:46

If you like the name go with it! MY DD1's name was not that popular for yr she was born (maybe around 25ish on list) but there are three of her name in her class!! So your Ruby may be the only Ruby in her class. You can't predict!
I say to my DD there are three of her name as Mummies and Daddies loved name so much. It doesn't bother me tbh!! It's is fab name IMO!! Grin

KenDoddsDadsDog · 01/12/2010 21:47

I don't know any! None in DDs nursery class either.

I know two. One is 18 months the other is 3.

Lovely name though.

SpringHeeledJack · 02/12/2010 11:34

15 in dd's class

when the teacher does the register, it sounds like that Kaiser Chiefs song

8rubberduckies · 02/12/2010 11:34

I am now more convinced that there are not 1,000s of Rubys being born every day and taking over the world! I had quite an unusual name the year I was born, and always felt sorry for the 4 Rachel's in my tutor group at school!

There's 2 in my DDs class of 27.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 02/12/2010 11:47

I know one toddler and one 6yo.

There were 4555 babies named Ruby born in England and Wales in 2009 (plus 85 named Rubie, 54 named Ruby-May, 49 named Ruby-Mae and 49 named Rubi). So that's just over thirteen varients-of-Ruby being born every day, or around 1.4% of all girls.

8rubberduckies · 02/12/2010 13:23

Professor I like your Maths skills Grin.
