Felix - How popular is it?

PenguinNZ · 28/11/2010 01:04

This seems to be the only name that DH and I agree on at the moment, but I am worried it is becoming too popular/trendy. We are currently living overseas but are likely to come back to the UK in a few years.

Please let me know how many Felix's you know. Will he be one of many at school? (Likely to move back to London or Bristol if that helps).

TIA!

I don't know any Felixes.

onimolap · 28/11/2010 09:11

We're in London. It's one of the very common names in DS's year at school (yr 5, 9-10 yr olds), but there are none in DD's (yr 2, 6-7 yr olds). I haven't met any baby Felixes for ages.

autodidact · 28/11/2010 09:14

I know 1 Felix, aged 11. And went to school with one who would now be 37, in case that helps!

According to Office for National Statistics Felix was the 122nd most popular name for boys in 2009, with 485 baby boys given it as their first name.

Ineedsomesleep · 28/11/2010 10:04

Know 2, one is an adult and the other is 4. There are none at DS smallish school.

MelinaM · 28/11/2010 12:05

I know of 6 little Felix's, all under the age of 5! ..I'm just outside Bath! I do like it as a name, but I feel it's just going to become even more common popular!

PortlyBlackSantaUpTheChimney · 28/11/2010 12:08

....my lolly i'll kill him.

Bue · 28/11/2010 12:32

I only know one little Felix, and he lives in the US. It is a great name.

Alouiseg · 28/11/2010 12:35

I know a 6 year old and a 10 year old Felix.

fel1x · 28/11/2010 12:35

muminthemiddle · 28/11/2010 16:46

I don't know any.

marthamydear · 28/11/2010 20:02

I have found that Felix is very popular in London, I know four under 5 years.

telsa · 28/11/2010 20:33

I know one who is 6 in London.

lilly13 · 28/11/2010 21:00

I know 1 Felix who is an adult. It is a popular German name and is not very common in the UK imho.

lottiejenkins · 28/11/2010 21:09

We have one Felix aged five in our village!!

Edmundo · 28/11/2010 22:06

I'm in Herts and it's pretty popular here. I know of 4 under 5s.

Jojay · 28/11/2010 22:08

I know one who is about 10 and one toddler.

Great name, and if you love it you should go for it anyway. It's so hard to predict which names are going to be popular ( who knew anyone called Ruby 10 years ago?? Not me!)

PenguinNZ · 29/11/2010 00:48

Thank you for all your responses. Really useful, esp Bath and London.

I think I secretly knew it was becoming more popular but was trying to ignore it IYKWIM. However this is very useful for getting DH to consider other choices.... [sneaky penguin]

Any slightly more unusual suggestions in the same vein, we also love Jasper but have ruled it out due to popularity if that helps gives you an idea of our taste. DS1 = Ryder. No M names and nothing that rhymes with Day (or has a nickname that rhymes with Day).

posey · 29/11/2010 19:48

I know 2 13year old Felixes and one 12 year old,
that's it. None in ds's primary school and none in recent memory at my pre-school.
We're in London.

SoLongAsItsHealthy · 29/11/2010 20:13

I know two adult Felixes.

magbags · 30/11/2010 21:33

My favourite boys name and I only know one, my ds. Grin

PenguinNZ · 01/12/2010 04:07

Thank you for the suggestions Telsa and Shopping, some from our original shortlist on both of your lists.

I think DH and I are beginning to think 'sod it - who cares that it's popular, we like it'. But that could be pregnancy hormones talking....

There are quite a lot under 5 here in Surrey, so it is becoming quite 'trendy' imo.

How about
Quentin
Tristan
Vincent
Sebastian
