Hi all,

Although I've ages yet, just wondering which of these do you like?

I love loads of girls names but DH and I are finding it very difficult to find any boys name that we like. More a case of "it'll do":

Girls:

Kate (which appears to be a front runner) possible middle name Scarlett as per Gone with The Wind? or is that tacky? or Kate Olivia

Amelia (Millie)
Grace
Eliza (middle name Grace)
Megan
Juliette
Olivia
Elouise

Boys:
Jack (I know, I know but I do love it)
Sonny (DH says no way)
Naoise (Nee-Sha again, DH says no)
Elijah (other than Jack first name we've agreed is not bad just worrying its too much like Eliza?)

We already have an Oisín and a Shannon. As I said I know its early (14weeks pregnant!) but am honestly panicing about having a baby with no name or just using a name thats just ok.

Thanks a million all!!

LOVE Fergus. Or Fergal.

BonniePrinceBilly · 27/11/2010 00:04

Amelia (Millie) ok
Grace Dull
Eliza (middle name Grace)meh
Megan 90's
Juliette like
Olivia dull
Elouise better spelt Eloise but prefer Elodie

Boys:
Jack Dull
Sonny Love it
Naoise Great name but will be hard if not in Ireland, prob sounds like a girls name to english ears
Elijah Brilliant,also like Elias

BelligerentGhoul · 27/11/2010 00:05

My favourite is Eloise (I wanted it for dd1 but dp vetoed).

I like Elijah best of the boys' names - don't like Sonny or Naoise at all.

Love Juliet but don't think it needs the extra letters.

MardyBra · 27/11/2010 00:08

Kate - will inevitably have Kate Middleton comparisons
Amelia (Millie) - nice -but lots of them out there
Grace - ditto
Eliza (middle name Grace) - love this especially with the middle name
Megan - another nice but ubiquitous
Juliette - love it
Olivia - no 1 name
Elouise - nice

Boys: sorry don't like any of your choices.

typsical · 27/11/2010 00:23

I was reading a thread earlier about Katie Scarlett and think it is beautiful! I would consider it if my sister hadn't 'bagsied' Kate!
Really do not associate Kate with Miss M! And even if people do, she's lovely.

Olivia would have been my DS had he been a DD but I'm so glad we didn't have it as it is so popular... however, we have an Oliver, which, although popular, I still adore!!

Amelia shortened to Millie I love, but is quite pop.
I know a new baby Eliza, not really sure what I think... think I like it!
Much prefer Meg or Meggie to Megan.

Like Jack.
Elijah is fab, but imo better as a middle as don't really like Eli?!
Think Sonny is just too cute, but wish it had a better meaning than 'son'!

Really like Shannon, and how do you pronounce Oisin?

Lovely name overall, I think!! :)

ShoppingDays · 27/11/2010 00:27

Girls:

I like Amelia, Grace, Megan and Juliette.

Megan Amelia
Megan Grace
Juliette Grace
Amelia Megan
Amelia Grace
Grace Juliette
Grace Amelia

Boys:

I like Elijah best on your boys' list by far. You could have Eli for short and I don't think it's too similar to Eliza. Jack and Sonny are nicknames and Naoise sounds quite feminine.

mathanxiety · 27/11/2010 01:08

Oisin is USH-een or sometimes OSH-een.

Naoise would be more NEE-sheh than NEE-sha

Rachy91 · 27/11/2010 02:43

im 23 weeks and we still cant decide on a name, even though weve been arguin about it since week 3!!

we know shes a girl and my faves are Alexa, Niamh, Bronagh, Orla and Macie but baby daddys not keen, he likes Ruby which i dont like so it doesnt look like shell ever have a name! especialy now im gettin pretty desperate to name her and hes well and truley lost interest in the conversation!

maybe niamh and bronagh would go with your other 2 cus then theyre all irishy? love irish names for girls, think theyre so pretty! the spellings are a bit to wierd for some of them though so i dont know if itd be worth the pretty name when shes gotta spell it and repeat it over and over!

musicmadness · 27/11/2010 02:49

Amelia (Millie) - like
Grace - more of a middle name IMO
Eliza -don't like
Megan - like
Juliette - like
Olivia - like
Elouise - don't like

Boys:
Jack -ok
Sonny - nope
Naoise - that pronunciation reminds me of a girls name more than a boys but don't particularly like it either way.
Elijah - love it!

Guacamohohohole · 27/11/2010 04:02

I like them all except Eloise and Sonny.
I knew a girl called Kate at school, our Chemistry teacher kept calling her Catherine because apparently 'Kate is not a name' it used to drive her nuts.

diddl · 27/11/2010 11:21

I love Elijah!

Like Amelia & Megan.

Prefer Elise to Elouise.

BarbieLovesKen · 27/11/2010 16:32

Oh thanks a million all for your comments and honesty!! (keep 'em coming Smile) Looks like Elijah is a front runner for a boy. A name that never occured to me before yesterday and dont know anyone here at all with this name.

We're in Ireland btw.

Looks like DH was right - people think Naoise is too feminine sounding.

Typiscal, Mathanxiety is spot on, our ds is an USH - EEN though. Smile also thank you so much for saying you liked Shannon. I get quite sad about it as, if Im honest, I sort of regret it (probably only because how it seems to generally be thought of on MN really which is silly of me)

Sad I know but Im going to go back and count which names are getting the most votes from all your posts..

Thanks again..

ValiumSingleton · 27/11/2010 16:39

I love Eliza and Juliet. They're not in the same style as Shannon and Oisin though.

I think Clodagh (after another river as I'm sure you know) or Diarmuid would go well with Oisin and Shannon though. Diarmuid is lush. I love it. I suggested it to English X but his face imploded.

ValiumSingleton · 27/11/2010 16:40

I know what I thought was an Alisha, and then I was it written down and it was Laoise, so people seem to be using naoise and laoise for girls now. I wouldn't, but it's like Sasha or Kim, unisex imo.

irishqueen · 27/11/2010 17:20

im 26 weeks and have shortlisted Clodagh or Eithne (enya) for a girl and Cormac, Francis or Dermot for a boy.

mathanxiety · 27/11/2010 17:22

ooooh, lovely names Irishqueen.

pointydog · 27/11/2010 17:29

Eloise
Kate
Grace

in that order

The only boy name I like on your list is Jack and I'm not really too fond of that.

pointydog · 27/11/2010 17:30

I like Declan

wigglesrock · 27/11/2010 17:38

I like Fionn, I really like Naoise, but know a girl called it, and I don't like Neeshy as a nickname. Cillian?

BarbieLovesKen · 27/11/2010 22:02

Thanks again all.

Hmm Clodagh is lovely and does go well...

Thanks pointydog but DH will definately veto Declan (he hates a Declan we know and because of that the name would be out).

Yeah, Naoise is gone. I do love it but think its going to be my "if I had the nerve name" it is too girly, I think.

Can I add Farrah and Gabrielle/ Gabriella to my girls names? I had these on my list and dont know why but I managed to forget them!!!.

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 27/11/2010 23:24

I think Clodagh would be better than either Gabrielle or Farah and goes better with your other names. It's another Irish river too, and has a lovely soft sound imo.

BarbieLovesKen · 28/11/2010 09:53

DH has just pointed out that theres 3 Clodaghs on his side of the family and the couple next door (granted we live in the middle of nowhere and "next door" is 2 fields away!! but they are likely to play together/go to school togeher) has had twin girls and one is Clodagh. Sad
