I have already mentioned this name on another recent thread... But just wanted to know what you all think of it...? I think it's fab and can't understand why it isn't more popular? (Knowing my luck, it'll be the height of fashion when I come to want to use it! Angry)

Interesting. It's a grower. I had a great-great-uncle whose full name was Somerset Josiah Christmas. Grin He was from Yorkshire, too.

KERALA1 · 25/11/2010 20:18

Somerset Christmas is a great name. But think it would only really work in the 1870s.

MelinaM · 25/11/2010 20:39

^Fab name Wisteria12!

sparkle12mar08 · 26/11/2010 10:19

For the same sort of verbal sound how about Willoughby? I love this one.

Islandsinthestream · 26/11/2010 10:38

Because everyone will think your DS is a DD called Summer Bee. The spoken sound is very feminine. He will get caller Summer all the time, like a girl, or else it's not really the biggest leap to Spring Bee, Winter Bee, etc. Yes I know kids can make fun of the plainest names if they want but Summer Bee has just got too much wrong with it for a boy!

Somerby is the type of name that looks better written down than said out loud.

I don't want to sound churlish but I honestly don't think it will ever be the height of fashion.

cumbria81 · 26/11/2010 15:11

It's horrific.

ReformedCharacter · 26/11/2010 15:18

I love it.

But, I think it's pretty. I'm surprised it's a boy's name.

PaigeTurner · 26/11/2010 15:36

It sounds like a dessert. Somerby pudding.

Summertime92 · 26/11/2010 17:01

it sounds way too girly for a boy, i can already hear the teasing, as we all know children can be very cruel. im pretty sure it never be a popular name as it sounds like someone in the victorian period!

mathanxiety · 26/11/2010 18:46

It's more of a place name. But not completely objectionable all the same. However, I think unless you have a connection to somewhere called Somerby it's just a bit random.

I've heard Carrington as a girl's name (fancier version of Carrie maybe) and I think Somerby might be more of a candidate for an unusual girl's name than a boy's name, as Summer is established as feminine.

ThatllDoPig · 26/11/2010 19:12

I quite like it, but I don't think your ds will when he's older. But if you say it quickly, it does sound a bit like zombie, so he might like it a bit for that!

typsical · 26/11/2010 21:27

Okaay okaay, I'll stick with John! :( FTR "height of fashion" was said with tongue in cheek! x
