What do you think? Is it a bit drippy?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Myrtle the Fertile Turtle Grin

GingaNinja · 14/11/2010 18:33

I quite like it but would not use due to HP connection - think of playground taunts etc.

Strangely enough, I used to work with a Mrs Potter who's DS1 she named Harry....about a year before JK Rowling's work really got well-known. Bet the poor little bugger is enjoying school....

nannynobnobs · 14/11/2010 18:34

How about Mabel? It was my great gran's name and is having a small revival. :)

millymae · 14/11/2010 20:47

I really like it - but my view might be coloured by the fact that I know a little one who's name it is and she's the cutest thing ever.

Jojay · 14/11/2010 20:51

Awful - sorry

TCOB · 14/11/2010 20:51

I love Myrtle - BIG fan of lovely little old lady names. Thought of a great name today which I can't use as my DD is already tagged - what do you think of Ivy? Another plant-based one.

LetThereBeRock · 14/11/2010 21:32

Horrid.

MerryMarigold · 14/11/2010 22:11

Urghhhh. (Myrtle has that sound in the middle).

Very drippy.

StableButDeluded · 15/11/2010 00:05

Horrible, sorry.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 15/11/2010 03:28

Sorry it's horrible and can't quite put my finger on why...

MiasmARGGG · 15/11/2010 04:46

It's the joint ugliest name in the world.

Myrtle and Beryl.

No. Just no.

Sounds awful. Sorry!

Komondor · 15/11/2010 10:24

don't liuke.

flopsy1974 · 15/11/2010 10:38

terrible name.

midnightexpress · 15/11/2010 10:41

I know a Myrtle and she is a way cool teenager. But tbh I think it depends on how confident the child is, because you need a great deal of chutzpah to carry it off. And that, of course, is an unknown.

Funnily,(and somewhat poncetastically) the French version Myrtille, is much much prettier and lovelier, imo. But I don't think it really works in English - difficult to pronounce in English.

Hedwig3 · 15/11/2010 11:24

It is one of those names that I think I should love but am not quite sure.

Definitely NOT drippy, though, quite strong.

Confused
ShadeofViolet · 15/11/2010 11:31

Both Moaning or The Turtle comes to mind.

Pasiphae · 15/11/2010 12:21

A Marmite name.
I love it.
I know a Myrtille, like Myrtle but "Frenchier"...

Rhubarbgarden · 15/11/2010 13:51

Hmmm. Myrtille is very nice. Dh's ponceometer would probably go off the scale with that though. He thought Fleur was pretentious. Hmm

I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised how many do like Myrtle though.

i love myrtle! it was my number one name if i was having a girl.

it won't be to all tastes, but what name is? and don't worry about the turtle and moaning associations.

good luck!

Suncottage · 15/11/2010 16:09

You could call her Myrtle with Tilly as a nn

ThatllDoPig · 16/11/2010 19:58

Ok, but ....
Children at school would call your child Moaning Myrtle and your child wont like it.

PoisPois · 17/11/2010 21:00

I don't think it's drippy at all. I think it's lovely.

Cortina · 18/11/2010 16:32

Cool, makes me think of Gatsby.
