...Lexi as a nn for scarlett? love the name but can't bear the idea of scar or letty as nicknames.

Well have to admit that's one I've never heard of. I think those are extremely different names and very different styles. You'd get a lot of Confused and Hmm faces.

Just call her Scarlett...?

ChippingIn · 13/11/2010 01:42

It's a huge stretch of the imagination.

Our friends Scarlett is Scarly.

Or give her Scarlett as a middle name if you aren't actually going to use it on a daily basis.

Stardown · 13/11/2010 01:49

What about Carly?

MummysLittleSunbeams · 13/11/2010 08:10

I don't understand how nicknames can be 'given'. A nickname should naturally derive from a name once the baby is born & you are using the name on a regular basis.

No I don't think Lexi sounds right at all.

AlpinePony · 13/11/2010 08:15

Daft. Her name is either Alexandra (or a variant of), or Scarlett. Both are gorgeous names - or perhaps you'd prefer the more exo'ic - Alexett or Scardra.

BlooKangaWonders · 13/11/2010 08:36

I'd call her Alexandra Scarlett on the birth cert, and Lexi for every day. Otherwise it's a mishmash!

At least she has 2 full names and lots of shortened versions to choose from when she wants to branch out :)

Rhubarbgarden · 13/11/2010 11:06

Why do you need a nickname? Scarlett is only two syllables.

kiwidreamer · 13/11/2010 13:27

I agree why do you need a nickname for Scarlett?? Its a pretty name and not too long to be cumbersome on a day to day basis.

Bue · 13/11/2010 17:14

I think Lettie makes more sense.

PhoenixFirefly · 13/11/2010 21:10

lol damn it, thought it might be a bit of a stretch. I know it's a lovely name and doesn't need a nickname, but I was trying to pre-empt any future shortenings by friends etc. my sons name is only one syllable but he still gets a nn from some people Confused

And I absolutely can not use any 'alex' names of any variation due to a particular ex.

Thank you for the honest opinions though :)

Its the name Amanda Holden gave her daughter, Lexi. If you don't mind being associated with that, or copying that it does sound fine.

dinosaurkisses · 14/11/2010 02:24

Lexi reminds me of the Scottish girl who worked in the kitchens on Monarch of the Glen.

Just me then?

Hedwig3 · 15/11/2010 11:31

It doesn't matter what nickname you use, her friends are unlikely to use it, they like to make pick their own! I speak from experience.

MelinaM · 16/11/2010 20:47

Me too dinosaurkisses!! Scarlett is such a lovely name on it's own, but I do understand the need for a nn before someone else chooses one for her! How about Arli /Ali or something along those lines?! ..tis hardHmm

Notyetamummy · 16/11/2010 21:13

If it helps I know a Scarlett who is 9 now and her name is never shortened by anyone.
