My brother in law is called Jamie. I would love this name if I had a girl.....do you think he would mind. My 3 year old is called Dylan and at the moment we are really struggling wth a boys name as well as a girls name. We have only come up with Harry or Jaime!

Personally I always stumble a bit over this name as I always want to say it with a french accent

Jamie and Jaime are different names aren't they? Although both derived from James. However I thought that both were boys names.

If you are going to pronounce Jaime as Jamie then you need to ask your BIL first.

How do you pronounce it? Andf how are you going to explain to your dd that you have given her a boy's name?

I thought it was the Spanish word for Jamie? The actress from Hustle was called Jaimw though.

Is Jaime not pronounced the same as J'aime?

mathanxiety · 11/11/2010 20:52

Jaime is something like 'Hy-meh' in Spanish (and a boy's name).
Jamie would be Jay-mee.

I don't like it as a girl's name and it's not really a grown up name for an adult whether man or woman imo. I would avoid it for a girl purely because there's already one in the family who happens to be a man, though.

Doesn't J'aime mean 'I like' in French? [TLC tries to remember back to her GCSE French lessons] I can't quite remember how it's pronounced though, but I do know it doesn't sound like Jamie or the Spanish one above.

Why not Janie for a girl pronounced Jay-nee instead of Jay-mee. Similar sound but most definately a girls name.

My son has a Jamie (age 13) in his class - and when written down she is known as "Jamie, middlename, surname", or when talked about as "Jamie - the girl" otherwise everyone assumes that she is a boy.

I like the suggestion of Janie. :)
