We are between Alexandra(Lexie for short), Anais or Poppy... What do you think?

I love Alexandra, but would choose Alex for short (Lexie is a bit twee). Anais is a bit ugly. Poppy is a baby's name and not an adult's.

LelloLorry · 05/11/2010 06:23

Personally I think Library of Alexandria, I don't like Lexie for a nick, I like Anais, but prefer Alexandra.

KenDoddsDadsDogHatesFireworks · 05/11/2010 06:31

Alexandra is lovely as is Alex.
Lexie is the name of Amanda Holden's / Alex Gerrard's PFBS and think as a result there are a few of them.

diddl · 05/11/2010 07:13

I really like Alexandra.

Lexie-loathe.

Constance39 · 05/11/2010 07:15

Poppy.

skippingturtle · 05/11/2010 07:42

I think Alexandra's a bit dull, sorry. Love Lexie, but it's gaining in popularity, if that bothers you. Anais makes me think anus, sorry again! I like Poppy.

Tartarjungle · 05/11/2010 07:51

Ah thanks - hadn't realised there was a footballers wives connection with Lexie... Maybe Alex is better as a short form or Sasha or Alexa?

Alexandra Burke. I like Lexie.

I personally LOATHE the name Poppy, particularly on an adult. Anais makes me think of Anais Nin and her erotic writings...

AlpinePony · 05/11/2010 08:02

Alexandra is the best name ever. Fact.

Poppy is the name of my dog.

Anais - Meg Matthew's PFB. Plus you'll spend a lifetime saying "no, it's ann-eye-ees".

clarabellarocks · 05/11/2010 08:16

Sorry - but bit masculine, not a pretty name. Doesn't help the girls I have known and know match that description.

diddl · 05/11/2010 08:45

Anais has made me think of Chloe!

Komondor · 05/11/2010 09:35

I think of my three friends called Alexandra, who have the nicknames Ali, Alex and Pip.

I also have a male friend called Alexander, and his nn is Sandy. I suspect Sandy could work as girl nn too.

Komondor · 05/11/2010 09:37

Alexandra is my fave of your choices, and I love Lexie for short.

I dont think of footballers wifes, but Lexi from Monarch of the Glen.

lilly13 · 05/11/2010 09:42

I love Alexandra. I would go with Lexi, as Alex is very common in so many languages.
Not a fan of Anais or Poppy. Sorry!

OhLuckyYou · 05/11/2010 09:45

Alexandra is ok, Lexie I'm not keen on, definitely makes me think of WAGS. Poppy is a great child's name but I don't think it "works" when you are grown up. Like Anais best of the three.

CuppaTeaJanice · 05/11/2010 09:46

Alexandra - Burke. A bit long for everyday use.
Lexie - Amanda Holden
Anais - Meg Matthews and old perfume
Poppy - Jamie Oliver

I like Alexa as a nn for Alexandra.

diddl · 05/11/2010 09:56

Liking Alexa!

SkippyjonJones · 05/11/2010 10:14

Alexandra is lovely, Alex for short. It is a great name for a grown up as well, always taken seriously. Cool name for a teen. Poppy not so much, the other one sounds like perfume.

A1980 · 05/11/2010 11:20

It's my name. Never had anything but positive feed back. Alex is pretty bad ass for a girl.

I absolutely LOATHE Lexie as a nickname and thankfully no one has ever called me that.

Pasiphae · 05/11/2010 11:39

Alexandra is cool, but not with Lexie for short, it just cheapens the name.
Love Anaïs as well.

Ormirian · 05/11/2010 11:41

I think of Alexandra Workwear for some reason. There used to be shop of that name in Bristol. I prefer Alex as a girl's name. Don't care for Lexie at all.

My eldest DS is ALex too!

KateF · 05/11/2010 11:44

I think of my fabulous 3 year old goddaughter Alex. It's a strong name for a bright, feisty, stong-willed little girl. I find Lexie a bit more girly - wouldn't suit her at all Grin

Tartarjungle · 05/11/2010 11:53

Thanks all - have abandoned Poppy and Anais, as no-one will know how to pronounce it, and yes the Anais Nin thing did cross my mind too... I'm kind of stuck on Alexandra thinking it will work as a grown up (a lot better than it does a baby), Clarabella judging by the 3D scan, she is looking like a bit of a large baby so will suit perfectly! We are not in the UK, so I don't know who Alexandra Burke is, perhaps fortunately... Also, it seems like there are lots of shortened versions she can choose when she is old enough - thanks all!

Fabulous name. All being well DD will be Alexandra when she arrives in Feb.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 05/11/2010 12:32

Glad to hear you've settled for Alex and dropped the cutesy Lexie.
Alexandra is a lovely name. Fact.
