Lilac as a middle name, or ......a first?

I've already come across this as a middle name and think it can be stunning with a more trad first name e.g.

Josephine Lilac

Your thoughts please?
Could it ever be used as a first name? Just a thought?

You can use whatever name you want MHD .

That's the whole point, you get to decide, not MN, not your parents, sisters, friends. Its your choice.

I've never heard Lilac used as a first name but it's realy pretty, I like it :)

Not used to it as a name but it does sound lovely.
If you're feeling brave use it as a first, but Josephine Lilac is lovely too!

I really like it. As a first or a middle name. Go for it

You could always go for Lila if you wanted to be more conventional...but I also like Lilac.

Its a really pretty name, Not sure if I'd be brave enough to use it as a first name, but as a second, its fab.

Have been rolling Lilac around, don't think I would use it myself but I don't see why it couldn't be a first name if you like it.

We have a Lilac. It's invariably shortened to Lil or Lily or sometimes lengthened to Lilac Lil. She's 3 and a half now.Everyone says its a lovely name and suits her.

There's Lilah, too. I know a 3yo called that. It rolls off the tongue a bit more easily than Lilac.

I'd love it actually. It's one of the few 'out there' names that I like. I think it's gorgeous.

I considered it. But then thought it would just look like I'd wanted Violet really but it got too popular. Which was true.

Wow, it's very popular! Unlike Jonquil (I posted earlier) ....which, well, rather lead- ballooned.

I wouldn't use it as a first name as I already have a Violet, and they both:

a)are the same colour and
b) sound very similar
I now need to convince dh that it's a great middle name for something like Josephine (nn) Posy or Daphne. He wants something else which might be the topic of another post.

Ineedsomesleep, I think it's fun to bounce ideas off other people, to do a bit of 'market' research,as you can often lose perspective in this hormone-ridden naming game, that's the point of this forum. However, the final decision of naming is very much in the parents' hands - and that's the way I like it
