Lilac as a middle name, or ......a first?

I've already come across this as a middle name and think it can be stunning with a more trad first name e.g.

Josephine Lilac

Your thoughts please?
Could it ever be used as a first name? Just a thought?

You can use whatever name you want MHD Smile.

That's the whole point, you get to decide, not MN, not your parents, sisters, friends. Its your choice.

Sarsaparilllla · 04/11/2010 11:26

I've never heard Lilac used as a first name but it's realy pretty, I like it :)

spicycupcake · 04/11/2010 11:58

Lilac... Love it need I say any more :)

Hedwig3 · 04/11/2010 12:35

I can't see why it could only be a middle name!

mybedsmyfriend · 04/11/2010 12:42

Not used to it as a name but it does sound lovely.
If you're feeling brave use it as a first, but Josephine Lilac is lovely too!

reddaisy · 04/11/2010 12:45

You could always go for Lila if you wanted to be more conventional...but I also like Lilac.

expectingno3 · 04/11/2010 13:27

Its a really pretty name, Not sure if I'd be brave enough to use it as a first name, but as a second, its fab.

Rocketbird · 04/11/2010 13:29

Jessie Wallace's daughter is Something Lilac

ZZZenAgain · 04/11/2010 13:33

Have been rolling Lilac around, don't think I would use it myself but I don't see why it couldn't be a first name if you like it.

messylittlemonkey · 04/11/2010 13:46

Lilac is beautiful. A lovely first name.

toddlerama · 04/11/2010 13:49

Love it.

WhyMeWhyNot · 04/11/2010 13:51

We have a Lilac. It's invariably shortened to Lil or Lily or sometimes lengthened to Lilac Lil. She's 3 and a half now.Everyone says its a lovely name and suits her.

Komondor · 04/11/2010 14:46

Love the name Lilac, never heard the name before.

bundlebelly · 04/11/2010 14:47

would you like it if it was YOUR middle name?
Don't get me wrong I quite like it, just on someone else!

ragged · 04/11/2010 14:48

There's Lilah, too. I know a 3yo called that. It rolls off the tongue a bit more easily than Lilac.

Rocketbird · 04/11/2010 16:25

I'd love it actually. It's one of the few 'out there' names that I like. I think it's gorgeous.

coatgate · 04/11/2010 16:30

Lovely name - with Lilah for short.

Rhubarbgarden · 04/11/2010 19:25

I considered it. But then thought it would just look like I'd wanted Violet really but it got too popular. Which was true.

bowbluebell · 04/11/2010 19:37

I agree, it's a lovely name and a bit different too.

tessofderbyville · 04/11/2010 19:44

Ooh like it; never heard of it before. Beautiful as a middle name. I like Violet too.

Horton · 04/11/2010 20:05

Love it. And what a beautiful plant to be called after. I love the scent of lilacs.

Josephine also vv nice, btw. I think it would work either way round.

RobynLou · 04/11/2010 20:06

lovely

Mitchymum · 04/11/2010 22:41

Lilac is nice and it made me think of Lavender too.

MissHavishamsDress · 06/11/2010 05:15

Wow, it's very popular! Unlike Jonquil (I posted earlier) ....which, well, rather lead- ballooned.

I wouldn't use it as a first name as I already have a Violet, and they both:

a)are the same colour and
b) sound very similar
I now need to convince dh that it's a great middle name for something like Josephine (nn) Posy or Daphne. He wants something else which might be the topic of another post.

Ineedsomesleep, I think it's fun to bounce ideas off other people, to do a bit of 'market' research,as you can often lose perspective in this hormone-ridden naming game, that's the point of this forum. However, the final decision of naming is very much in the parents' hands - and that's the way I like itSmile
