I think DH was joking but I rather like this and it goes with dd's name. Is it ridiculous?

Luckily we have many months ahead of us to choose something else so do your worst...!

Sorry, but I think it is faintly ridiculous.

At best I think Bogart, at worse I think poor little kid.

Mitchymum · 31/10/2010 10:03

Oh and my 13-year-old says that is sounds like he is fat! Dunno, how, but that is the first thing she thought of.

notagrannyyet · 31/10/2010 10:07

DD called her pet hamster Humphrey.

Reminds me of 'Yes Minister'.

badcoverversion · 31/10/2010 10:07

I like it personally
BUT I couldn't bring myself to lumber a kid with it as I think they would be teased mercilessly.

TheNextMrsDracula · 31/10/2010 10:09

DD2 has a friend called Humphrey. It suits him, somehow! Not a name I'd choose, though, but I've heard MUCH worse (last night's thread about Coriolanus, anyone??).

LetThereBeRock · 31/10/2010 11:28

It's utterly ridiculous.

onimolap · 31/10/2010 11:40

What do you call a camel with three humps?

It wouldn't be my choice of name, but I know 2 adult Humphreys and it's fine.

LynetteScavo · 31/10/2010 11:55

Oooh, I like it, but I think it would only suit a certian type of child. I can#'t imagine a wirey, hyper-energetic child called Humphrey. I'd imagine him to be more of a steady, sensible type.

Ineedsomesleep · 31/10/2010 11:56

Much underused and lovely.

meadowlarks · 31/10/2010 12:03

I quite like it. It reminds me of Humphrey Lyttleton, or "Humph" as he was known.

poppydaisy · 31/10/2010 12:35

I like it and know a cute little 3 year old Humphrey.

Why don't we encourage more diversity in names, rather than discouraging any slightly less common names on here?

Kids generally don't care if their friends are called Harry, Humphrey or Harold, honestly. As long as the names is not 'silly' (e.g. Willy), that is...

It's awful. Either you are v v v rich, or just trying to sound it. It's very pompous sounding

hubblybubblytoilntrouble · 31/10/2010 14:35

Nice name for a cushion...

sparkleshine · 31/10/2010 14:42

Definately not, no way, nada.
It's awful and will be teased at school.
Sounds too posh and snobby for me

itisntreallyme · 31/10/2010 20:00

Thanks for all the opinions. I rather suspected some people would find it ridiculous, and some find it a bit posh. Very pleased some people like it though. I'm with MrsvWoolf... it's a name that makes me giggle but I sort of like that about it. But onimolap's joke may have just convinced me it's a bit too silly....

It is a lovely name Wink

mathanxiety · 01/11/2010 00:33

I think of turtles and tortoises for some reason. I think it's nice 'but...'

FoxyRevenger · 01/11/2010 14:14

I think, for some reason, that it's a pet's name. Get a cat, name it Humphrey so that it's out of your system, then find a nicer name for your boy!! Grin

itisntreallyme · 01/11/2010 14:57

Well there was the Downing Street cat of course...

DH pointed out I have a thing for cats' names... Felix... Casper... Humphrey...

imnotyourmother · 01/11/2010 15:20

It's fabulous

piscesmoon · 01/11/2010 15:31

Dreadful! (unless for an animal)

Komondor · 01/11/2010 16:09

Oh I think of Humphrey Bogart. Love it, but I dont think I'd have the confidence to use it.

I love the name Lauren, as I immediately think of Lauren Bacall, although I have been told on this forum that it's become chavvy.

PuppyMonkey · 01/11/2010 16:13

Bit silly. On another website I go on, my name is Humphrey Bumphrey. For a joke, like.

tammytoby · 01/11/2010 17:09

Humphrey Bogart comes to mind for me too...
