Well I'm going to be the odd girlie out as I love it! x

GrimmaTheNome · 31/10/2010 00:11

Its both pretty and barking mad.

controlfreakery · 31/10/2010 18:09

hmm are you a friend of pumpkinpoppets by any chance? is anemone to be coriolanus's twin sister?

have you considered other lovely flower / sea names?

nettle
ragwort
chickweed (chick for nn)
mandrake
cuckoo-spit 9spit for nn)

manatee
plankton
sea-monkey
bladderwrack

Rhubarbgarden · 31/10/2010 18:20

Nettle! I love that! Thank you.

Quite like manatee too, although I prefer dugong for a girl.

It's nice but too hard to say.

Why not ditch the A at the beginning. I've met a Nemone before. It's pronounced the same wihtout the A at the beginning. easier to say.

Rhubarbgarden · 01/11/2010 18:49

Ooh that's really nice. Is it a real name though?

Bonkers in the bean

What about Oenone? Similar sound but, you know, a name. Grin

KERALA1 · 01/11/2010 19:52

A tongue twister. She will surely end up being called Annie which at least is a sensible name though I sense will lack the exotic touch you are after.

Hullygully · 01/11/2010 19:54

It's beautiful. Simple, classy and beautiful. Redolent of rockpools and ripples, warm summer days and Mr Whippy.

(You're not Rhubarb Rhubarb, are you?)

ShowOfHandsInEpistolaryForm · 01/11/2010 20:15

Rhubarb Rhubarb.

V am dram.

Hully where you see rockpools and ripples, I see raw sewage and crabs. It's a toughie.

Hullygully · 01/11/2010 20:51

But think of the little frondy tentacles waving so sweetly neath the brine.

sparkleshine · 01/11/2010 21:19

Is it only me that has never heard of the word/ name Anemone?
Also is it pronounced An-I-mow-nee?
Prefer the suggestion of Nemone, pronounced like Simone.

Rhubarbgarden · 01/11/2010 21:40

Thank you Hullygully. What a nice description. You've made me fall in love with it all over again!

I'm not a rhubarb rhubarb though. I come at this from a purely horticultural angle.

Sparkleshine - anemones are firstly flowers in the buttercup family (wood anemones, windflowers, anemones de Caen etc) and secondly sea creatures with frondy tentacles found on coral and in rock pools. It is pronounced an-em-on-ee with a slight accent on em.

I'm not looking for something exotic for the sake of it; most of the names I like are pretty traditional. I just thought anemone would make a nice name - but I do concede the tongue twister aspect, sadly.
