DH has suggested this for DS2. I think I like them but not sure. What are your thoughts please?

Prefer Barney but then have known a couple of lovely ones which always gives a bias!

escorchio · 27/10/2010 19:05

Barney. I think Barnaby could be quite tricky for a toddler to say, and that would be a pity.

Simbacat · 27/10/2010 19:10

Barnaby is a big traditional name in Yorkshire. I know barnabys from 90 to new born. It is a farming name- after the place.

BelligerentGhoul · 27/10/2010 19:17

Love Barnaby. And Bee would be such a cute nn for a toddler. :)

othersideofchannel · 27/10/2010 19:18

Barnaby is more elegant. Barney can be the nickname.

Hiyamaya · 27/10/2010 19:19

I like Barney

doitorelsa · 27/10/2010 19:20

I like that, Barnaby with Barney and Bee as nns. Hmm, he has actually come up with something useable. I was very sold on Rufus but he has backed out of that one, sadly.

A bit flouncy for my taste but it's okay. I would probably go for Barney out of the two.

Someone I know has a boyfriend called Barnaby. He is called Barn and for YEARS I thought he was caalled Brian as it sounds so similar.

Themasterandmargaritas · 27/10/2010 19:54

Mine too hates Barney but is often called Barns by his friends.

LetThereBeRock · 27/10/2010 20:17

Both horrid.

Mumcah · 27/10/2010 22:39

I have a Barney, who is 5 months now.I wanted George but DH got his own way and I'm really happy with it now as there aren't that many around. We call him Barney B or Barney Buble as a NN.

Beamur · 27/10/2010 22:42

It was on our shortlist if we had a boy - great name.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 27/10/2010 22:43

Not keen on either.

kingbeat23 · 27/10/2010 22:45

big purple dinosaur - sorry.

valiumskeleton · 27/10/2010 22:47

I like Barnaby but I dislike Barney rubble. It's one of those names which sounds a tiny bit pompous in full but the shortening is really goofy sound. I like Barnaby though.

WinkyWinkola · 27/10/2010 22:48

Barnaby is a great name.

You can associate any name with other things. I wouldn't let that bother you unless it's the name of your dh's first love or something significant like that.

thefurryone · 28/10/2010 11:08

I love the name Barnaby, I know one who would be called Barney for a nickname. So you can get away without having to make a proper decision on which one you prefer.

doitorelsa · 28/10/2010 12:16

Ha Winky, I don't think it is DH's first love's name, though I could ask. I am not familiar with any of the characters which are coming up (except Rubble of course, and thats a bit old for any future generations I imagine). I am starting to like it more and more

foreverastudent · 28/10/2010 12:22

what about harvey as an alternative?

BuntyPenfold · 28/10/2010 12:23

I like it. I know one, who is happy to answer to Barney.
It seems a jolly sort of name.

dexifehatz · 28/10/2010 14:48

I don't like either of them personally, I think Barney sounds too much like a nickname for a full name and Barnaby sounds a bit too posh or unusual.

BelligerentGhoul · 28/10/2010 19:20

I don't like Harvey - barnaby MUCH better imho. :)

How about Benedict? Another lovely name.
