Jemima- just too Puddle Duck?

Thought we'd settled on a name for DD (although she's not due for quite a while). But just came across Jemima for the first time in ages and quite like it...

Any thoughts?

Oh, and any NNs for it other than (the truly, truly, truly outrageous- remember that!?), Jem?

I think it's a lovely name.

I assume your surname doesn't rhyme with either "puddle" or "duck", because that might make it unusable.

PGWomble · 26/10/2010 17:56

No!! Great point though. [hgrin]

nah not puddleduck
more for me as in.. electric aunt or goldsmith
nice name go for it

rubbersoul · 26/10/2010 18:09

I really like it- I 'remembered' this name the other day and have added it to our list for if we have a girl!

5DollarShake · 26/10/2010 18:45

Lovely name. Only a tiny bit puddleduck - definitely not too much.

I would frame a print of BP's Jemima and hang it in her nursery. [hsmile]

CrispyTheCorpse · 26/10/2010 18:46

I know 2 Jemima's - one is Mima and the other Mimi for nicknames

forehead · 26/10/2010 18:47

Play school

onimolap · 26/10/2010 18:49

Nicknames: Jem, Jemma, Jemmie, Mima, Mimi (and Puddle? Duckie?)

Lotofdamnationandhellfire · 26/10/2010 18:50

I love Jemima, however dh refused even when I was still open on the operating table after a c-section!

BertieBasset · 26/10/2010 18:51

I liked Jemima but DH could only think of playschool, Puddleduck didn't come into it!

I think there is a big range of food called Aunt Jemima in the US which you might consider if you go there a lot?

Lovely name though

TheBolter · 26/10/2010 18:51

I have one.

It's a great name. But I would say that!

Seems to have become a lot more popular since we chose it five yrs ago.

KenDoddsDadsZombieDogsNotDead · 26/10/2010 19:00

Love Jemima, it would have been on my list had it gone with our surname.

NotAnotherNewNappy · 26/10/2010 19:53

I think it's lovely and it's on my shortlist. 157 on the 2008 nat statistic list, so not too popular at all. I would have gone for Mima as an nn but I now Mimi as crispy suggested earlier.

LoubyLoubyLouLa · 26/10/2010 20:35

I LOVE Jemima, was on my shortlist but husband has vetoed due to the puddleduck and playschool connections.

If you can persuade dh use it, it's beautiful!

smother · 26/10/2010 21:20

to all those DH's who vetoe this name, tell them to think more of Khan than puddleduck... seriously stunning and if it's good enough for her then surely it's good enough for your little puddleduck!

CharlieBoo · 26/10/2010 22:20

Love it, if we ever had another dd that would be the name! What was your other name before you came across Jemima?

mathanxiety · 26/10/2010 23:28

I love it, and the nns on this thread are all lovely too. Very feminine name without being too frilly, an 'old' name without being faddish or old ladyish -- it has a lot going for it. Plus stylish.

Wobblewatcher · 27/10/2010 08:36

This is on my list, as well as Edie. I have a Millie.

PGWomble · 27/10/2010 13:27

Unfortunately my DH doesn't like it after all that- but we've a while to go so maybe he'll change his mind. What is it with men and the name? Do they know something we don't?

CharlieBoo other name is Alexandra. Elisabeth was also a contender for a while.
