Girl's name, meaning the sweet-smelling daffodil-like plant and associated with the colour yellow.
Thoughts please.

hahahaha.

GooseyLoosey · 26/10/2010 08:23

Gosh, I thought it was a posh boys' name along the lines of Tarquin. Not for me.

kando · 26/10/2010 08:26

I immediately thought of posh boy's name too! Doesn't really "do it" for me.

zookeeper · 26/10/2010 08:27

I think it will inevitably become "Junkie".

cumbria81 · 26/10/2010 08:42

ugh

sparkle12mar08 · 26/10/2010 09:37

Either posh British boys name, or black/mixed race name sprang to mind.

Servalan · 26/10/2010 09:38

Ooh, makes me think of the children's book "The Giant Under the Snow" which I loved when I was younger - the girl in that was called Jonquil

ragged · 26/10/2010 09:41

I know a female adult Jonquil in real life. I like her, very friendly and straight with you, but very loud extrovert personality. She's called Quil for short, btw.

GetOrfMoiLand · 26/10/2010 09:44

I went to school with a Jonquil - she would be abpout 34 now.

I think it's a lovely name - very pretty. Suited her as well, she was a quiet studious type. Nobody really thought the name was unusual (mind you this was in a class with a Tuesday and a Keturah in it Grin)

A1980 · 26/10/2010 12:29

No!

What will her nickname be? Jonny?

MollysChambers · 26/10/2010 12:31

Truly awful

JustDoMyLippyThenWeWillGo · 26/10/2010 12:33

I too like it because of "The Giant Under the Snow" Smile

leonam · 26/10/2010 12:37

I'm sorry, I just really dislike it. It's got an 'onk' sound in it. Why would you have an 'onk' in a girls' name, or any name?

ibbydibby · 26/10/2010 13:26

Love it...it's my sister's name. She hates it though. Mainly due to having to repeat it / spell it to people when meeting them for the first time. Wish it was my name, she, on the other hand, longs for a plain common name like mine.

Pasiphae · 26/10/2010 13:28

Not my cup of tea.

BridesheadRegardless · 26/10/2010 13:45

I thought it was a boys name, maybe with Jonty for short.(I like this.)

It's not bad for a unusual name I think it could be a grower, one poeple first of all say 'ooooh what??' and then grow to like and seems normal.

Jonty could be nice for a boy or a girl, I rather like unisex type names.

Have you considered Jemima with Jem for short? I love Jem for a boy or a girl too.

tstar · 26/10/2010 14:09

I love it.
Why? oh why must she have a nick name?
I could only imagine meeting a lovely interesting person with this name.
My children have different names, I find it's not the other children who question their names but adults. Go with your heart.

Just ignore "bad crap advice"

think out side the box

why not....Daffodil, Dafodille,Daffine.

Daffonie

Daffiny

more girly ways

Jenquil

Janquill

Joanquill

Joquill

the best of luck

MadreInglese · 26/10/2010 14:10

how do you pronounce it? Jonkle? John-Quill? Yon-Quill?

tstar · 26/10/2010 14:18

Jenquil................ I like it.

ragged · 26/10/2010 14:22

Madre: you say it like "John-quill".
I believe that Jonty is a separate boy name.
I prefer Daphne too, though, come to think of it.

said · 26/10/2010 18:22

God, I thought posh boy's name as well. It's horrendous

Rhubarbgarden · 26/10/2010 21:29

I rather like it. But it's verging on trying too hard.

lowrib · 27/10/2010 02:01

I love many unusual names - but Jonquil is a posh boys name to me, sorry.

anonymosity · 27/10/2010 02:50

I like it. Amanda in THE GLASS MENAGERIE is always going on about her gentlemen callers bringing her jonquils. Apparently they are a form of daffodil.

nooka · 27/10/2010 06:06

Doesn't sound very feminine to me, probably because the emphasis is on the "Jon" part. Jonty is short for Jonathon btw.
