Georgia/Georgina/Georgiana/Georgette?

We have two boys, Arlo and Sonny, and are currently expecting a little girl. DH and I would like to use a female variant of George in honour of his mother and my grandfather. My favorite is Georgia, but fear it's a bit too popular with our boys...? Also like Georgina, not sure if the others really "go" with our boys. Any thoughts or ideas?

Also, I'm a bit stumped for middle names. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I know a Georgia Grace and a Georgina Elizabeth

I prefer Georgina as it's softer sounding than Georgia.

As both are very similar you could always use Georgina for full name and call her Georgia in speech. Will inevitably get shortened to George at school either way. Prefer Georgia myself Smile

Georgiana?

metromum · 26/10/2010 09:46

Sorry didn't see the whole title of your thread - duh!

I really like Georgia and Georgiana if you want to be posh!

Georgia probably goes best with the boys, or possibly Georgette, but Georgia is better.

Arlo, Sonny and Georgiana isn't bad...

Ooh I love Georgia! I think Arlo, Sonny and Georgia sounds lovely Smile

I think Georgia goes best but prefer Georgina as it is more traditional.

I love Georgiana so long as you pronounce it George-jay-na.

Georgiana Charlotte

Georgiana Beth

Georgiana Rose

Georgiana Pearl

Georgiana Ruby

? Are any of these along the right lines?

Namechanged for anonymity HmmConfused

As a Georgina who didn't like her name as a child I have spent my life monitoring the alternatives. I think Georgiana is perhaps over grand, especially with your boys' names, and in my experience people always dither over GeorgiAYna vs GeorgiARna, which would really irritate me, personally.

Georgia's nice but much more common,as you say, and much more common than your boys' names, to my mind at least. I have totally come round to the idea that my parents were right all along and that Georgina is a great name. I get loads of good reactions about how elegant it is from colleagues and people I meet from various places around the world. However, I have always been a Georgie as a child and to my nearest and dearest, and I also think that's a good nickname which isn't too twee and is certainly usable into adulthood. I hated being called George because I didn't want a boys' name and I loathed the Famous Five character, but you can easily nip that one in the bud. I think Georgie goes very well with your sons' names too -- Arlo, Sonny and Georgie sounds very great to me.

I love your boys names.
I second what the last poster said as a mother of a Georgina who hates her name NOW but I am sure will thank me one day Smile
My 11 year old Georgina is now known as Jeannie and it works for now.

Hi, my sister is called Georgina and her middle name is Yvette. We call her Gee, although she has been known as Gina (which I'm not a fan of really). Always a problem with long names that any part of it can be used to shorten - only a problem if there is a part of it you don't like!
