Husband insistent on Elvis

Apart from hoping against hope that it's a girl (!) he's been on about this name for YEARS - reckons he went all soft on me when DD was born and let me choose, so this time around it's his turn.

Are my instinctive reactions (against the name) right?!?!?

I just laughed at this thread and told dh. His reply was "what's wrong with calling him elvis" . thank god we had girls !

MIL has had many cats, after Elvis died she named one Levis........

I think Elvis is fantastic but there's no way I'd have the nads to use it myself!!

There's a theory the Jesus and Joshua are pretty much the same name.

How about Presley?

No to Presley as well - Travis, I'd prefer, but he wouldn't.

And, Liononthefloor- elf-wise friend would only encourage him - he did suggest an acceptable (to him) variation would be Elvin - only one step away from Lord of the Rings stuff as far as I'm concerned!!!

Right, I'm going to come right out and say it- I have a Presley. And she is a she, not a he.

What happened was thus; Pregnant with first child. Always wanted a different name, but not a moonbeam or whatever. Sitting waiting for scan, flicking through 'hello' and I read that Cindy Crawford has a son called Presley. I thought it was kind of quirky. I'm not a huge Elvis fan, although I do like him. Mentioned it to DH who went very pale and told me that he would rather die than have to tell his mother we'd named precious firstborn after (in her view) a hideous rockstar. This cemented choice in my head.

Wrangling went on for several weeks (about20 to be exact) when DH said he would consider it for a girl. Don't know why. his only explanation was that it sounded too pretty for a boy. So she was a girl, and we looked at her long and hard and decided to go with it.

First few weeks were really hard, having to tell everyone her name. Oddly enough my Grandma loved it. My Mum (big Elvis fan) hated it. Others kind of expected something a bit odd from me. M-I-L loathes it, but isn't keen on Presley anyway cause she is a girl.
Now I love it. There are 4 Sophies, 2 Emilys, 3 Lucys and 3 Amelias in her class. There are only 15 girls! Presley is the only Presley in her school. She was the only female one in england when she was born.

I've also got an Orson and Chester (last one was DH choice.)

But Elvis?? No dear.

NO!!!!!!!!! Our cat is called Elvis. Suits him very well. Get that Goldfish.

But a child? Can you imagine his teenage years??? I can't believe that you know two already.

I know of one little Elvis and one Presley (a boy). Really - it could be part of a trend - and what wrong with venerating the king!

Elvis though - well you know I suspect after a lot of laughter at the beginning people would just get used to it.

Elvis is quite a common name in Jamaica, also there's Elvis Costello, and I read that Roman Polanski's son is called Elvis

I don't think Elvis is so bad. I guess you'd get the "Ooh, Elvis Presley fan are you?!" comments from people the first time you mentioned it, but after that it would wear off, surely? It's sort of a limited-ribbing name.

Obv if you truly truly hate it then same refusal applies as to any other name you hate.

Partyof52010----I actually like the name Presley for a girl, it's quirky and not sickly sweet but not too tomboy ish iykwim. I'm sure she suits it.

Like the Aaron suggestion. But not Elvis please, or any other variation suggested. It's awful and will forever be associated with the singer and presume u are both fanatics who wanted to pass that name onto your son.

I think Elvis's brother was Jesse which I like but DH has vetoed

I know two.

One is 10yrs old and one is 3yrs old, neither are of English parentage.
