Miles

I like a classic but not overused name. I like Miles, but am worried it is too trendy (especially in the US, and I am American so can't rule out that he may one day want to live there).

Honest opinions, please. Don't be bashful. I want to know now if it's a bad choice -- before it's too late.

Other names I like (but all have been vetoed by DH, and I have vetoed quite a few of his as well):

Luke
Stuart (although has been accepted as a middle name)
Nicholas

How about Milo?

Strix · 21/10/2010 08:27

I think I prefer Miles to Milo, as i think Miles is a bit more traditional and Milo always makes me think of the Tweenies, which I realise is unfair because the BBC certainly did not invent the name.

Miles is lovely.

n Greek mythology, Myles (a son of Lelex, king of Laconia) was brother to Polycaon, and was the father of Eurotas who fathered Sparta after whom the city of Sparta was named.

Hardly stupid.

angelofthelake · 07/04/2011 21:07

I absolutely love the name Miles and want to call our next son Miles but my DH hates it with a passion so its a no no as we both have to agree of course, its a shame though particularly as our Surname is Mellor, Miles Mellor has a lovely ring to it. Go for it, it's lovely.

ThisFeelsWeird · 07/04/2011 21:27

Like it a lot.

Greenwing · 07/04/2011 21:49

Miles is a great name but prefer Myles - which is a common spelling in Ireland. Don't think of Myles as American at all and it stops it looking like a measurement.

dexifehatz · 07/04/2011 23:22

My ds5 is Dexter Miles.

notanumber · 07/04/2011 23:46

Agree with lalalomglrgs - Milo is nicer.

NotaMopsa · 07/04/2011 23:49

notanumber · 07/04/2011 23:50

Obviously that is lalalonglegs.

I have been drinking.

I have a red wine moustache and no typing ability. However, I do really really love my friends. They're just sooooo great and I love them.

peeriebear · 09/04/2011 22:19

My friend is called Myles and he is a complete sweetheart. So I am pro- Myles or Miles. :)

NotaMopsa · 09/04/2011 22:20

ShowOfHands · 09/04/2011 22:27

Strix, have just searched on here out of sheer nosiness to see if you did use the name after all.

Congratulations. Great name. Smile

dexifehatz · 09/04/2011 22:28

StiffyByng · 10/04/2011 01:52

I love Miles and it's a family name. My husband's not too keen though.

oohlaalaa · 10/04/2011 13:57

I love the name Miles, and I only know two.

oohlaalaa · 10/04/2011 13:58

Know is too strong a word, I have only ever met two.

ICanSeeASeagullsFoot · 10/04/2011 18:47

I know a Miles who is a prize prat which puts me off but taking him out of the equation it's a nice word. A PP suggested Giles which I think is much classier though.

SolarPanel · 11/04/2011 00:45

I like Miles (with the "i" spelling), and think it's underused, certainly here in the UK. Milo is OK but much trendier and will date. Luke and Nicholas are nice too.

Iwantscallops · 11/04/2011 13:46

Love it!

NotaMopsa · 11/04/2011 20:30

never known a great one - sorry not my fave. A bit smooth
