Feeling a little board and being as sad as I am, considering potential nn for the name Martha.

My DD is called Martha Felicity-Rose and is 5 weeks old (6 weeks tomorrow) but for the past week or so, started to wonder if I should have given her Felicity as a first name. What do you think am I just being hormonal??? Hmm

Martha is a lovely name - what nn are you thinking of using?

Flossiebelle · 18/10/2010 22:11

Not sure! I am not even sure if I really want her to have a NN. DH has called her Marty once and on another occassion heard him say Miffy - it just got me thinking really. It has now made me think about the whole name in general Hmm

A chum of mine has a sister called Martha - they are Scottish and it sounds just gorgeous pronounced with their accent. It's not really a name that lends itself to shortening though is it? I think it sounds nice left as it is.

Flossiebelle · 18/10/2010 22:18

Do you prefer Martha to Felicity? Confused

I do. But then I have a bit of a soft spot for the name Martha - it was on my long list. I think its a sweet feminine name.

Skyrg · 18/10/2010 22:29

Martha is much stronger than Felicity imo. Felicity, to me, sounds more wishy-washy (although it's nice as a middle name). Felicity is hard to shorten anyway.

I think you should stop worrying :) It's a nice name and gives her the possibility of choosing to use a middle name if she wants to.

I would ban Miffy as a NN though! Marth, Mart, Marta, Martie, Mattie? Mia? What about just giving her a more unrelated nickname? I know a boy with a perfectly normal name who is called Spike by everyone, including his parents. She will choose her own nickname I expect.

piscesmoon · 18/10/2010 22:29

Martha is much nicer than Felicity.

Flossiebelle · 18/10/2010 22:30

Thanks Jaynie-I do love it too. I think my hormones are just getting the better of me at the moment Smile

I think the names you've put together work really well, I'm not usually a fan of multiple names but I think your little girls name sounds very musical.

DuelingFanjo · 18/10/2010 22:33

I love Martha. I find it odd that people think there needs to be a nickname though.

Sunlightdances · 18/10/2010 22:53

Felicity, hard to shorten? Flick, Fliss, Flissie, Flossie, Cissy...

Then again, I tend to give everyone nicknames.

Flossiebelle · 19/10/2010 07:44

Thanks for the reassurance everyone. I have woken up with a much more clearer head this morning (hard to believe with all the night feeding Grin). I am a bit of a natural worrier/stress head and I think I was just having a little post registration wobble over the name Hmm. I just seem to look at my DD at the moment (and i know she is still extremely young) but no name seems to jump out as suiting her. I know I am just being I little silly over it all Blush Smile

morning Flossie

Martha is a gorgeous name and don't you forget it!

But I do think it may be one of those names, that takes a while to grow on a baby... doesn't necessarily suit a new born if this makes sense.

As for NNs, don't worry about it, these tend to evolve and change over time.....

Aviendha · 19/10/2010 12:45

Mattie

Lots of people have a wobble. Your not the only one :o

WreckOfTheHesperus · 19/10/2010 12:51

Marthie?

Flossiebelle · 19/10/2010 14:31

Thanks Smother - you have made me feel a lot better after reading your post Smile

Aviendha - I am glad I am not the only one out there.

I think all the fretting has come about because we did originally have a much more popular alternative name but then we decided that we would prefer not to have a name that was in the top 20.

I have a 12 week old Martha and we love her name. If I we you I'd stick with it as a first name. My husband has called her Marthie on a occasions which has met with disapproval from me. I'm hoping that she doesn't get a nickname.

Flossiebelle · 19/10/2010 23:08

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Flopsy - I remember you from a previous thread. You have got a Martha Alice havn't you??? - Lovely combination by the way.

I think I am going to try and avoid the nn after all. Why shorten such a beautiful name? You see, now I am starting to think a little more rationally Grin. It must be the hormones - I feel like I am on an emotional rollercoaster!

It's a fab name and most people would see it as a huge advantage that it doesn't have an obvious nn.

APixieInMyTea · 20/10/2010 15:32

I just seem to look at my DD at the moment (and i know she is still extremely young) but no name seems to jump out as suiting her.

This is exactly how I feel about my Ds2's name.

I do like then name (won't say love as it wasn't my first choice) but he just doesn't look like an Arran. But then again no name is coming to mind when I look at him.

He's only 5weeks though so I'm hoping this will change over time.

Martha is an absolutely gorgeous name and doesn't need a nn imo.

Flossiebelle · 21/10/2010 07:58

Morning APixieInMyTea - You seem to be going through what I am at the moment. My DD is 6 weeks now and I feel exactly the same way (even now). I think I am feeling mainly unsettled to whether I should have gone with Felicity-Rose as her first name (although it is long) I really like it. Although I do sometimes look at her and see more of an Annabel or Isabelle. Ahh it is so mind blowing Hmm

By the way. I think Arran is such a gorgeous name Smile. It is such a strong individual name, that I would personally stick with Smile. Hope you don't mind me asking but why didn't you go for your first choice???

Hows it going with baby Martha, Flossiebelle? Is it getting any easier?

I just thought, Muffin is a really sweet name for a baby martha!

Flossiebelle · 23/10/2010 16:05

Thanks for asking Smother - It is going fantastic and I am loving the nn Muffin Grin She is such a good baby. She has been going through the night for the past couple of weeks now, which is so different to my DS.

I love the name Martha, even though at times I do still have the odd wobble to whether I should have gone with Felicity or Annabel. When I look at her though, she is starting to look like a little Martha now Smile
