Suddenly starting to doubt

I am now a week overdue and have suddenly started to doubt our baby names. I think it's all just nerves and getting feed up with still being pregnant.

AFter much debate we found names we both liked about 8 weeks ago and have been using them between ourselves and bump since. Slightly complicated by my friend's sister using our girls name but resolved ourselves that we would still use it. Now I'm stressed about whether these names are right but can't think of any others.

ANyone else got to this point?

Don't worry. It's great that you have some strong ideas about names, but now you just need to wait until you see your baby's face.
When you meet him/her face to face, you will be able to finally decide the right name.
The end of pregnancy can be very stressful, but don't worry about the name at this point. You have enough to think about.
Good luck with the birth!

I know how you feel!

C section tomorrow afternoon. Decided on names a while ago, could swap them around when DD is born - but what if i still don't know?

I suppose nothing to do but wait and see and hope when i see her face i'll know.

We literally have one girls name and one boys name. I think that's why I'm a bit paincky in case they don't suit but right now can't find any others we like and agree on.

Hi Splatt

I felt this way and still do sometimes even now and my DD is 6 weeks old. I would honestly say go with your heart and don't rush into anything if you are unsure, you have got 6 weeks to register the baby after all Smile

My DD has ended up having 3 different names since her birth and for different reasons we kept changing her first name. We eventually registered her two weeks ago and now feel fairly happy that we have made the right choice. Try not to stress yourself out about it, it will all fall into place in the end Smile

Yeah Flossie, I said that about having 6 weeks to decide.

But DH wants to send out the classic text with a name when he/she arrives. I don't think I could bear to have to then contact everyone a week later to say 'actually no their name is....'

We had a ton of names ready for our daughter, in case she didn't suit the main one we liked. She ended up being nameless for 2 weeks. We just couldn't decided, and it ended up being a name we hadn't even considered.

I think we chose right in the end though.

Hello splatt, I'm a big believer in only having one name of each sex picked. I was so bonkers hormonal having given birth that I picked a name from our shortlist of three, and then ended up changing it at three months after lots of worry and stress.

I don't subscribe to the view that 'when you see your baby you'll know', they change so much in those first few days and weeks.

Try saying the name aloud a lot, and try to imagine your DC as a baby, a teenager and as an adult with that name. If after that you still like it then I'd go with it!

Best of luck!

I did the same. Had a DD name for years and then panicked when I was in labour! gave her the original name though when everything calmed down.

Yellowflowers · 19/10/2010 12:49

oops silly me - I just posted something almost identical and then saw this.

DD looked like an Eskimo when she was born, but we went with our chosen name anyway and now she suits her name and no longer looks like an Exkimo :o
