Help, just found out we're having a girl, can't decide on name even though we have a little way to go. Btw she'll be anglo-italo but living in England :) TIA

I'm biased I have a Darcie lol. Although Love Alba too.

HighlandlassinLondonshire · 08/10/2010 11:39

If I was brave i would love to go with Darcy....! Alba makes me think of a surname. :)

fayc84 · 08/10/2010 12:05

I'm trying to persuade my husband of Alba (I'm Scottish so it would be for that connection, but I have heard it's popular in Italy and Spain). I think it's so pretty but would work well for all ages.

Easywriter · 08/10/2010 12:07

I have a Darcey, you know it's a mighty purdy name!

littlemissm · 08/10/2010 12:12

Alba is a electical Brand that i know sells in Argos

bundlebelly · 08/10/2010 14:23

They are both really pretty names.

LaRagazzaInglese · 08/10/2010 14:37

I know, and i feel quite 50/50 on this now, we've been suggesting Darcy to the Italian side of the family and they say "what? daffy?" so im thinking Alba might be a better choice, but i was set on Darcy for ages and i think its more ballerina than stereo system! oh well we still have time...Grin

I have a Darcey too so I'm biased like some of the others.

mathanxiety · 08/10/2010 19:41

Alba is gorgeous.

Darcy is too surnamey and also has the word 'arse' embedded in it. D'Arcy is the surname of two Irish families that I know.

Haliborange · 08/10/2010 19:43

alba - very elegant, I think.

Love Alba. I had Ailbhe on my list which is the Irish equivalent.

NiceCuppaT · 08/10/2010 22:44

Alba make cheap stereos!!!

proudfoot · 08/10/2010 23:40

I like both but if the Italian side of the family struggle with Darcy it's probably better to go for Alba.

I also wonder if there would be spelling issues with Darcy. To me, Darcy is the standard spelling (I think P&P and Bridget Jones...) but all other Darcy mums on this thread have spelled it differently! I think Darcey with an E is more popular in the UK iirc (and I think if you combined all spelling variants it would be very high on the popularity tables!) I do really like the name though and was considering it for a while.

  1. Alba is obviously an extremely Scottish name - and you are an Anglo-Italian family - is that OK with you?
  1. The daughter in "The Time Traveller's Wife" is named Alba.
LaRagazzaInglese · 09/10/2010 13:58

yes 'cause it's also extremely Italian :)

Aha! Didn't know that - would possibly explain the Time Traveller's Wife then!

mathanxiety · 09/10/2010 22:00

Alba is also Spanish, a popular name for girls in Spain, meaning white.

Northernlurker · 09/10/2010 22:07

I prefer Alba (though I loathed the Time Travellers wife)
