Not pregnant, but have been obsessed with baby names from young, and we are planning on next year... already thinking about names Blush

The baby will be mixed west indian, a bit of chinese, and white (welsh and scottish).

I like

Arielle Keyshia
and
Lennox Patrice

Firstly what do you think
Secondly, how would you pronounce Arielle

Re pronounciation:
Arry-elle, I reckon. Is that what you were aiming for?

mathanxiety · 06/10/2010 22:35

I love Lennox Patrice. It's a surname that cries out to be a first name imo. Lenny is a lovely nn for a girl (and there's also Dutch singer Lenny Kuhr from a long time ago, whom I love)

Arielle is too Disneyesque for my taste. I would pronounce it with an A as in Harry, and then emphasise the ELLE part 'A-ree-ELLE

ChynaDoll2006 · 06/10/2010 22:43

Yeah I was aiming for arry-elle, so that's good.

Sorry, mathanxiety, Lennox Patrice is for a boy! Patrice is after Patrice Lumumba, who was from a French speaking country. Do you reckon Patrice is too girly in England?

mathanxiety · 06/10/2010 23:10

Blush -- I do think Patrice would be too girly for England (clearly it was for me anyway lol). However I still love Lennox, even for a boy. And love Lenny as a nn, even for a boy.

BuntyPenfold · 07/10/2010 00:59

I love your boys name. Arielle is a bit Disney I am afraid.

runningrach · 07/10/2010 07:38

I think Ariel is lovely - I prefer that unisex spelling although the feminised one would be more 'girly'. My husband vetoed it on the basis it's also a washing powder.

It's also a very hebrew/jewish name, not sure if thats what you want? I think it's more popular in the US than here. Forget Disney, that will get forgotten and nothing you can do about Disney using any other name in a couple of years when it's too late to change your dc's name.

LaTristesse · 07/10/2010 08:50

I don't like your middle names I'm afraid, but love Lennox and Arielle...

Pasiphae · 07/10/2010 11:29

I love Arielle (aree-elle) (despite the mermaid or Ariel Sharon), but not keen on Lennox, it's a bit "dumb vilain".

I don't think Patrice would work in the UK, but it's a middle name so it would be fine for me.
Keyshia feels a bit rough.

chaya5738 · 07/10/2010 11:44

I love Arielle but prefer the Ariel spelling (annoying that it is the same as the washing powder though). It means lion - fantastic :) Makes me think of the wonderful Sylvia Plath book of poetry. I would pronounce it "Ah-ree-elle" (with a long "a") but either way it fine

rachel234 · 07/10/2010 12:54

Ariel is a boys' name, is it not?

mathanxiety · 07/10/2010 14:36

Arielle is a bit close to areola?

ShoshanaBlue · 10/10/2010 00:00

I know a few Arieles (and Ariella is also quite a popular name). I think it is lovely and a name I was considering for my own DD.

Never heard of the other names, except for Patrice, which is nice.

Are you a fan of the Eurythmics? In this country Lennox is a surname?

niccibabe · 10/10/2010 10:26

Lennox is awful - sorry! Apart from the surname aspect, Lenny is a really drippy nn, and Ox is a clear potential nn.

Leo is a good name here.

Patrice is definitely girly here. Patrick is fairly classic in England, but in Scotland would be associated with a strong Irish connection.

Panzee · 10/10/2010 10:27

Patrice Evra plays football in England, so there will be a fair few people who know the name to be male.

ChynaDoll2006 · 10/10/2010 11:43

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I do live in England though, you know!

Lennox is my favourite boy's name (well - second favourite after my son's name)

Faaamily · 10/10/2010 15:39

I would pronounce Arielle 'arry -elle'. I think it's lovely. To me Keyshia is Keyshia Cole. Depends if you like her or not.

Not keen on Lennox. I just think 'Lewis' or 'surname'. Lennox Lewis isn't really called Lennox, btw, he's called Lewis Lennox and changed it to sound more 'celebrity' - ish.

Honestly? Its a bit 'Bring bring! I've got the ghetto on the phone and they're asking for their name back' to copy a line from a famous comedian Grin

MamaLazarou · 10/10/2010 15:45

Mmmm... Lennox Lewis. YUM

AmeliaEarhart · 10/10/2010 20:12

I know a real live Lennox (first name). He's one of the loveliest people I've ever met, so the name gets thumbs up from me. He gets called 'Len' for short.

ChynaDoll2006 · 13/10/2010 21:14

Love Keyshia Cole, so that ain't a problem!

I know my name choices are usually a bit ghetto Blush

yummymummie1 · 14/10/2010 10:06

I love Arielle

chickentwizzler · 15/10/2010 17:10

Lennox - I like.

Patrice - I don't like.

Arielle - I love.

Keyshia - prefer Keisha

My cousin has two mixed race daughters and they are called Maya and Leila (quarter Jamaican, and three quarters welsh/english).

With Maya, my cousin and her partner wanted a name to reflect her being part Jamaican, and were going to call her Yolanda. But then she was born with blond hair and blue eyes, and they didnt think the name would suit her. Maya is more mixed raced looking, but you need to know her heritage to see the african features, otherwise you'd think she was Italian with curly hair beautiful lips and a lovely tan. Maya is a devastatingly gorgeous child.

Apparently their Jamaican grandad has a great grandad who was Scottish, and some other white ancestry on his grandma's side, which may explain why they didnt look as obviously mixed race as we expected.

chickentwizzler · 15/10/2010 17:12

I should correct that Leila was going to be called Yolanda.

Enjoy choosing your names.
