It looks ridiculous. Is it even a name?

PestoEatsPastiesandSurfboards · 06/10/2010 18:55

Easy? Confused

rubyslippers · 06/10/2010 18:56

How do you say it?

EauRouge · 06/10/2010 18:56

I think many people would struggle to spell or pronounce it. I'm going to guess at Ee-say, but I don't speak French so I might be wrong.

skidoodly · 06/10/2010 18:59

I like it.

Did you make it up?

Skyrg · 06/10/2010 19:23

I read it as Easy. I'm assuming it's for a girl, and Easy is not something you want associated with a teenage girl...
Also you would be forever spelling it.
Sorry!

Chatelaine · 06/10/2010 19:33

It will be pronounced "Easy", not a name, an adjective.

It may well be a French name, but be careful. E.g. The name Amelie as used in Germany, if mis-pronounced in English sounds something like "poor person" to a German speaker.

LittleCheesyPineappleOne · 06/10/2010 19:34

It's a bit silly.

I like Ysella, (ee-ZELL-ah), a traditional Cornish name

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 06/10/2010 19:36

I-see? That is how I would pronounce it and it makes me laugh as DS who is 2yrs always says 'I see?, I see?' whenever I'm putting on my make-up.

Chatelaine · 06/10/2010 19:37

Izzy?

skidoodly · 06/10/2010 19:40

Why would it be pronounced Easy?

That's like saying "you can't you child Barbara because people will just pronounce it Borbiru"

or "katie's a bit like cunty, and you don't want to be a teenage cunty"

Skyrg · 06/10/2010 19:47

Because, skidoodly, several of us have said that's how we've read it. People will probably not, on first seeing the name, know how it's pronounced. Fair enough you can tell them, but it's nice for people to be able to guess roughly.

People generally know how to pronounce Barbara or Katie, but not Ysée. Thus people will make up their own pronunciations.

capucine · 06/10/2010 19:54

the prononciation is :
Y - is like ee
s - like Z
ée - like bébé (baby in french), I am not sure how writting this sound.

Ee-Z-Ay? It is a nice sounding name, but I do think it will be confused with 'Easy'. Your choice though, obviously. There are plenty of names with confusing pronunciations which are quite popular.

JaneyTroll · 06/10/2010 20:01

[sings] Because I'm Ysee, Ysee like Sunday mooooorning...

?

NomDePlume · 06/10/2010 20:01

So E-zay ? Sorta ?

Hmmmm

If you are French or a native French speaker and it is a real French name, then go for it. If not, no.

sarahscot · 06/10/2010 20:47

Skidooly:
"katie's a bit like cunty, and you don't want to be a teenage cunty"

I just laughed out loud. Grin

CoteDAzur · 06/10/2010 20:53

Correct pronunciation of the name sounds very much like Easy.

Don't do it.

Haliborange · 06/10/2010 20:56

I didn't have my french brain switched on and read it as a variant of "you see" (y'see?).

capucine · 07/10/2010 09:43

I can write this name : Ysée, Isée or Ysé
The prononciation at the end is like Zoé, everybody know this name in England and don't have problem to spell it.

May be Ysé is easier.

Ee-zeh to rhyme with bebe, would be the French way. It would not work in the Uk, but it is very pretty!
