I love it.

My childhood teddy is called Fred.

We have a little boy called Fred living in the next road.

It is a great name, use it.

It's a lot better than some of the usual crap you see on here. Grin

Teenager called Fred? can't see it myself..but if you like it, thats all that matters

AnnieLobeseder · 25/09/2010 19:50

There's are two Freddies in DD1's class. She called one of them Fred outside the school gate, and his mum got really upset! She said he's Freddie or nothing!

I asked what age he could start being Fred, and she said never!

Poor thing.... Freddie's hardly an adult name, it is?

Fred is fine, IMO.

lifeinagoldfishbowl · 25/09/2010 19:53

A friend has a Fred - and I can't imagine him as anything else.

It's a cool name and guaranteed (sp?) that no one else will be called it in his class :)

deepdarkwood · 25/09/2010 19:55

I know a 5 yo and a 27 yo Frederick - one is Freddie, the other Riki. Both lovely Smile

deepdarkwood · 25/09/2010 19:56

Oh, the Riki is Frederik (German spelling) before you all get arsey...

PaulineCampbellJones · 25/09/2010 19:57

I like it!

SirBoobAlot · 25/09/2010 20:02

I don't like it. Think it sounds blunt and unfinished. Frederick is okay, but Fred? Horrible.

TheNextMrsDepp · 25/09/2010 20:03

I like it.

HumphreyCobbler · 25/09/2010 20:37

I have a Fred so naturally I like the name but I wouldn't assume you will have the only one. There are a fair few out there.

mathanxiety · 26/09/2010 07:14

West.

I like Fritz, but apparently it is Not British in a way that is not good.

wisteria12 · 26/09/2010 10:34

I love Fred/Freddie. I know a teenage Fred and it really suits him, so I don't think it's a hard name to grow in to. I also love Frank but when I suggested it my DH said he'd either become a cast regular on EastEnders or a young offender. Shock

onimolap · 26/09/2010 10:41

I think it's a great name. I'd use Frederick on the BC, and abbreviate to suit his character.

MaudOHara · 26/09/2010 11:53

There's a Fred and a Freddie just started at our school - think its on the rise in popularity.

I prefer Freddie for a younger child

facebook · 26/09/2010 12:28

I love it. Was my Grandad's name and I have always loved it. USE IT!!!!

FranSanDisco · 26/09/2010 12:30

Fred and Freddie are very popular round here.

NorbertDentressangle · 26/09/2010 12:35

Seems quite popular around here too.

There are 2 in the DCs very small school (one is a Freddie, one is a Fred)

I like it

violethill · 26/09/2010 13:48

To me, it's one of those names where a lot of people might like the shortening, ie Fred, but not the full name, Frederic. Personally I'm not keen on Frederic, sounds very harsh and Germanic, and I wouldn't choose a name where I didn;t like the full version, as it seems rather limiting. There are times when 'Fred' sounds just too informal, and 'Freddie' is only really ok up to a certain age.

Clary · 26/09/2010 22:29

Fred's a great name Grin

Ignore the silly people.

See usualsuspect there will be teens called Fred in about, oooh, 10 years' time!

mathanxiety obv a poor choice if yr surname is West...

mitochondria · 26/09/2010 22:32

Son has two Freddies in his class, and there's one in the year below too, which is quite a lot for a small school.

They are Freddies not Freds though. I agree that Freddie isn't really a name for a grown-up.

cece · 26/09/2010 22:33

I know 3 Freds/Freddies. All under 5 years of age.

I like it.

ivykaty44 · 26/09/2010 22:34

I like Fred and think it is a great name, I would probably go for the full name in case my ds wanted to change the name about when he was older Fred or Rick or freddie

i do know a 40 year old fred
